Well.. duh.. of course Buchanan liked it because Obama is not a progressive. Obama voted for Iraq, for multiple war supplementals, he voted for FISA and telecom immunity and Patriot steal-your-liberties.

Obama is also not a writer of his own speeches, hence the Deval Patrick kerfluffle when they had the same speech (same writer).

In its own right this was a great speech by Obama, but let's compare the essence of it with McCain's ideas and policies. Let's compare the points you brought up with McCain's voting record, McCain's character traits, McCain's speech-writing abilities and delivery.
As far as I could see, Buchanan liked the speech because it was a great speech, and not because Obama supposedly isn't a progressive. If you have an issue with him not being as progressive as you would like, then that's a valid point to bring up and argue, but in the US election there are two defacto candidates and one of them is infinately less progressive than Obama is.
