On top of a 650ft Crane - I bet your Palms gonna be Sweaty

Three guys in everyday clothes and without any security elements climbed a 200 meters high crane and go to the tip of the boom.
I felt very uncomfortable when one of them started to perform some "tricks".
Stupid, reckless or courageous? You decide. But you have to watch this!

My palms got sweaty too, but why? Was it some unconscious; my lizard brain wanting to see these fools die? I wonder if my palms would get sweaty were I up there doing pull-ups from 200m? Crazy nutbars.

I agree with everyone that it is a very risky thing to do and maybe stupid, but I do feel a bit inspired. I mean, his life is literally in his own hands, I can't even imagine the self confidence needed to hang there and trust your hands not to slip.

I did something similar to this with a buddy of mine a few years back, only on a crane probably 1/4th the hight of this one. It was late at night too, and no, I don't have a death wish. I jump at any opportunity to do something like this, that's just how I was built, y'know?

The climb was topped off with the toss of a cigarette butt from the very top, and it's sparky explosion on the windshield of a bulldozer at the bottom.

I remember seeing this video a long time ago on the sift. I'm not affraid of heights, but seeing this video gave me a small glimpse on how that would feel... I don't recall ever having watched a scarier 3:45 video in my life

Sweaty palms as well. Counter-intuitive response, right, since it would hurt your ability to grip?

Dangerous or steep overhangs will trigger vertigo (weak knees, lack of balance, sensation of swaying) in me. It's similarly counter-intuitive. Why lose balance in a situation which so critically requires it?

Maybe these reactions are evolutionarily advantageous because they steer us towards completely avoiding the situations (at the expense of coping badly if we have no choice).

Seeing as how we're bipedal with a high center of gravity and a slender base, it'd serve us well to steer clear of heights. Those of our ancestors that were afraid of heights lived to see another day in most cases while those with no fear had a higher chance of a fatal fall. Or maybe it's just something that happens because we're not used to being in those situations any longer. Can we change this response to this by becoming more familiar with it?

I have no issue with heights at all... but this friggen freaks me out. It's not the fear of heights, it's the fear of death... that thing of... if you let go you are dead... *shudder*

Don't likey.

I mean, upvote for the insanity, but... urgh

RedSkysays...

All the talk of everyone getting sweaty palms made me think of everyone as a group of women living together and synchronising their menstrual cycle.

Don't ask why.

Also don't ask why I thought it was necessary to point this out.

Yo! Hey! Acrophobia (fear of heights) can be dangerous, as sufferers can experience a panic attack in a high place and become too agitated to get themselves down safely.

Could all of you be suffering from Acrophobia?? Be worried. Be VERY worried. Only I know the secret cure, which is why MY palms are NOT sweaty...
O.K., maybe a little moist - but NOT sweaty!!!!

Strange tingling in my feet, just like when i've been working somewhere high. Nowadays i hate high working places, not for me anymore. Too many near misses and slips. This video does bring unusuallly strong physical reactions.
