Palin Pardons a Turkey -- While others are killed behind her

Honestly, I thought I was sick of Sarah Palin, but some videos you just have to see to believe, as reports The Huffington Post:

On Thursday, Alaska Governor, Sarah Palin, appeared in Wasilla in order to pardon a local turkey in anticipation of Thanksgiving. This proved to be a slightly absurd but ultimately unremarkable event. But what came next was positively surreal. After the pardon Palin proceeded to do an interview with a local TV station while the turkeys were being SLAUGHTERED in the background!! Seemingly oblivious to the gruesomeness going on over her shoulder, she carries on talking for over three minutes.

"I hereby pardon this turkey."

Why don't you pardon them all?

'I Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska friend to all creatures great and small, do hereby do deem this FOUL creature..." LOL

hehe, I think using the word fowl was possibly not the best idea in this sentence, it sounds like she is pardoning Satan!

That blurring at the start...I didnt even notice anything until the creepy guy in the background magically conjured a turkey out of thin air.

"..state programs on the chopping block". Nice timing.

On one hand this does seem like a really bad idea on her part. On the other hand, it's hypocritical of us (meat-eaters) to find this too offensive. If you're comfortable eating a traditional thanksgiving meal, you should be comfortable watching the preparations.

This is an outrage! How dare they show turkeys being slaughtered?! I only want to see them clinically preserved in plastic wrap like in my grocer's freezer! I don't want the real horrors of sustaining life thrown in my face during an interview, because I may be too weak minded to separate the interviewee from the graphic images in the background and inexplicably demonize her.

Ahem. [/sarcasm]

Apparently they asked if she wanted that for a backdrop and she said, "No worries."

I don't think seeing turkeys slaughtered is the problem, I think using it as a backdrop for an interview is a bit much.

Like that guy couldn't have waited 10 minutes for the beautiful and environmentally-conscious Miss Palin to end the interview? I smell Democratic set-up here, and it stinks. It really stinks.

^ Looks like he kinda looked over and was either thinking
"she seriously doing this?"; or
"hey ma!"

Maybe they had been waiting all day to slaughter 'em, but couldn't because they had to wait and find out which one Gov. Palin was going to pardon when she got there. So as soon as that was done, on to the slaughterin'.

man... she is just a barrel of laughs. i bet we learn years down the road that the daily show and saturday night live were paying her and setting this stuff up.

The uncensored original clip is also on the sift:

I love this description (on a page which also hosts the uncensored original):

http://thesuperficial.com/2008/11/sarah_palin_answers_you_betcha.php

"Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has answered a resounding "You betcha" to the question "Can she be anymore oblivious?" After pardoning a turkey for Thanksgiving, Governor Palin gave a surreal interview with a local news team yesterday - right in front of a dude slaughtering turkeys. Amazing. My favorite part is the look on the guy's face as he realizes "Wow, you're really going to do this." Then gets back to work because it's Alaska, and it's fucking cold out.

In the meantime, someone needs to tell Sarah Palin's the elections over, so she can stop reciting the words John McCain wrote on the inside of her eyelids ad nauseum. Jesus, lady. I don't see how Todd Palin doesn't spend the majority of his day purposely getting rammed in the ear by snowmobiles. Unless he's somehow immune to shrill."

OMFG... "Turkey-Killing fowls Palin news conference"... I was going to downvote when I saw "Turkeys die"... but the fowl blurb was funny.

Unless Schuster's a Vegan, he should go STFU, though.

Whenever I listen to Sarah Palin talk, I find myself wondering if she knows that words are supposed to convey thoughts and ideas and not just fill the empty spaces between the interviewer's questions.

Slaughtering turkeys on a turkey farm is reality. However, her using it as a backdrop, complete with flailing turkeys and blood everywhere, is not something fit for the evening news to show on TV. The fact that she is oblivious to this says a lot of her character. I guess they just grow them differently up North.

I am sooooooooo glad she didn't become VP. As much as I couldn't stand McCain, I would have accepted him as president if he promised to make it his life goal to make sure she never sets foot in DC again.

The ticker at the bottom is relentless!! CNN, you can calm down a little, the election is over

"Turkeys die as Governor Palin takes questions from media"
"GOV Palin keeps talking while turkeys get slaughtered behind her"
"Turkey-killing fowls Palin news conference"
"GOV Palin apparently oblivious to Turkey carnage over her shoulder"
"GOV Palin not realizing incongruity of her words versus her backdrop"

Maybe they hired the onion ticker guy for this clip

and I'm not so sure she's oblivious, I think she's just comfortable with this stuff and doesn't give a damn anymore since the election is over

It makes me laugh that some comments say "us meat eaters" or say that people have no right to be offended since we eat meat... vegetarians make up only 2% of the population in the US but we're here too
Although I don't eat meat I'm not offended, it's a reality, one that makes me sad, but I still would rather see it than ignore it.
Seriously, they didn't have to blur it, we are all adults. I think it's a good time to show the general population where their food comes from and test whether they can still stomach their diet.

The entire reason I limited the scope of my comments to "us meat eaters" versus "us in general" is because many people are vegetarian and I didn't want to generalize. You've managed to be offended by my acknowledgment of your lifestyle.

There are many people who eat meat but really try to not think about where it comes from (me to a certain extent)... and yes, if you eat meat you should be ok with seeing where it comes from, how it's prepared. BUT there is a time and a place, and in the background of a news clip it NOT the place. Young kids don't need to see the graphic details of an animal being killed, and that clip may well have been destined for prime time when the kids are still up and about. I know the stations ended up blurring it all etc. and true, it can give you an opportunity to discuss such things with your kids. But what it comes down to is her absolute inability to think even one step ahead of anything. That's where her problem lies in being in ANY kind of office of power.

Photographer: "Um, do you mind having that in the background?"
Palin thinks: "Meh, I'm not squeamish, I have no issue with animals being killed for food"
Palin says: "Nope"

Most other people:
Thinks: "I don't really have a problem with animals being killed, it's part of the whole process"
Thinks a bit more: "Probably not the best thing to have right behind me though... especially when it's an interview straight after me 'pardoning' a bird from death... maybe I should get them to just swing on around 90 degrees or so"

She is a dunce of epic, epic proportions.

There was no offense taken on my part from the meat eatter comments, I was just making a comment about it for the record for the vegetarian side (at least in my perspective), that is all.

I can see the point about the slaughter scene being inappropriate for prime time news, but if you choose to censor one type of murder shouldn't you stop talking about any type of murder on prime time news? I'm being a bit devil's advocate here, but if a parent doesn't want their children exposed to the harsh realities of the world, maybe they shouldn't watch the news with them.

And yes, Sarah Palin is quite the dunce of epic proportions.

Haha she didn't look up from that piece of paper once while she was reading--ahem, giving her "speech".

Thank God for the guy slaughtering turkeys in the background. I couldn't have watched this for 6 minutes without him. Is it me, or when she talks, does it all just seem like continuous rambling, impossible to pay attention to for long?

But seriously...NOBODY noticed that turkeys were being killed while they were filming??
