Palin Pardons a Turkey -- While others are killed behind her
tags:Honestly, I thought I was sick of Sarah Palin, but some videos you just have to see to believe, as reports The Huffington Post:
On Thursday, Alaska Governor, Sarah Palin, appeared in Wasilla in order to pardon a local turkey in anticipation of Thanksgiving. This proved to be a slightly absurd but ultimately unremarkable event. But what came next was positively surreal. After the pardon Palin proceeded to do an interview with a local TV station while the turkeys were being SLAUGHTERED in the background!! Seemingly oblivious to the gruesomeness going on over her shoulder, she carries on talking for over three minutes.

"I hereby pardon this turkey."
Why don't you pardon them all?
hehe, I think using the word fowl was possibly not the best idea in this sentence, it sounds like she is pardoning Satan!
"..state programs on the chopping block". Nice timing.
Ahem. [/sarcasm]
I don't think seeing turkeys slaughtered is the problem, I think using it as a backdrop for an interview is a bit much.
"she seriously doing this?"; or
"hey ma!"
Maybe they had been waiting all day to slaughter 'em, but couldn't because they had to wait and find out which one Gov. Palin was going to pardon when she got there. So as soon as that was done, on to the slaughterin'.
man... she is just a barrel of laughs. i bet we learn years down the road that the daily show and saturday night live were paying her and setting this stuff up.

I love this description (on a page which also hosts the uncensored original):

"Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has answered a resounding "You betcha" to the question "Can she be anymore oblivious?" After pardoning a turkey for Thanksgiving, Governor Palin gave a surreal interview with a local news team yesterday - right in front of a dude slaughtering turkeys. Amazing. My favorite part is the look on the guy's face as he realizes "Wow, you're really going to do this." Then gets back to work because it's Alaska, and it's fucking cold out.
In the meantime, someone needs to tell Sarah Palin's the elections over, so she can stop reciting the words John McCain wrote on the inside of her eyelids ad nauseum. Jesus, lady. I don't see how Todd Palin doesn't spend the majority of his day purposely getting rammed in the ear by snowmobiles. Unless he's somehow immune to shrill."
Unless Schuster's a Vegan, he should go STFU, though.
I am sooooooooo glad she didn't become VP. As much as I couldn't stand McCain, I would have accepted him as president if he promised to make it his life goal to make sure she never sets foot in DC again.
"Turkeys die as Governor Palin takes questions from media"
"GOV Palin keeps talking while turkeys get slaughtered behind her"
"Turkey-killing fowls Palin news conference"
"GOV Palin apparently oblivious to Turkey carnage over her shoulder"
"GOV Palin not realizing incongruity of her words versus her backdrop"
Maybe they hired the onion ticker guy for this clip
Cunt.
oh and "I Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska, and friend to all creatures great and small...expect wolves..."
and moose... and arabs...
It makes me laugh that some comments say "us meat eaters" or say that people have no right to be offended since we eat meat... vegetarians make up only 2% of the population in the US but we're here too
Although I don't eat meat I'm not offended, it's a reality, one that makes me sad, but I still would rather see it than ignore it.
Seriously, they didn't have to blur it, we are all adults. I think it's a good time to show the general population where their food comes from and test whether they can still stomach their diet.

There are many people who eat meat but really try to not think about where it comes from (me to a certain extent)... and yes, if you eat meat you should be ok with seeing where it comes from, how it's prepared. BUT there is a time and a place, and in the background of a news clip it NOT the place. Young kids don't need to see the graphic details of an animal being killed, and that clip may well have been destined for prime time when the kids are still up and about. I know the stations ended up blurring it all etc. and true, it can give you an opportunity to discuss such things with your kids. But what it comes down to is her absolute inability to think even one step ahead of anything. That's where her problem lies in being in ANY kind of office of power.
Photographer: "Um, do you mind having that in the background?"
Palin thinks: "Meh, I'm not squeamish, I have no issue with animals being killed for food"
Palin says: "Nope"
Most other people:
Thinks: "I don't really have a problem with animals being killed, it's part of the whole process"
Thinks a bit more: "Probably not the best thing to have right behind me though... especially when it's an interview straight after me 'pardoning' a bird from death... maybe I should get them to just swing on around 90 degrees or so"
She is a dunce of epic, epic proportions.
I can see the point about the slaughter scene being inappropriate for prime time news, but if you choose to censor one type of murder shouldn't you stop talking about any type of murder on prime time news? I'm being a bit devil's advocate here, but if a parent doesn't want their children exposed to the harsh realities of the world, maybe they shouldn't watch the news with them.
And yes, Sarah Palin is quite the dunce of epic proportions.
Thank God for the guy slaughtering turkeys in the background. I couldn't have watched this for 6 minutes without him. Is it me, or when she talks, does it all just seem like continuous rambling, impossible to pay attention to for long?
But seriously...NOBODY noticed that turkeys were being killed while they were filming??
