Oral Sex is the New Kiss Goodnight

I will be locking my daughter up in some sort of cage.

Meh, I'm not so worried. I say it still comes down, primarily, to parents raising their children well (particularly fathers when it comes to how they relate to their daughters).

oh absolutely not. Like the girls say in the video, a lot of girls don't even talk to their parents about their sex lives. Peers have much, much more influence than parents on sexual behaviour. If your daughter hangs around the kind of girls that likes to trade BJ tips and don't consider oral to be sex, then there's really nothing you can do.

(Except maybe getting her giant ugly braces. the kind that comes with headgear.)

Yea no surprise. I think this has been going on for a lot longer than anyone is going to want to admit. One of the things that was hilarious was the use of affluent suburbia being a good thing. That they were shocked that these affluent suburban (code for "good" and "white") girls were doing this. HAHAHAHAHAH, boy was that rich. There is nothing to do in suburbia, it is incredibly boring for High school students. So what do you do? Have drinking parties, get high and have sex. I mean really! Also does anyone else pair this with abstinence only education?

I think the numbers will go down on their own. 1) Its biological for women to care more about mating and sexuality, they can get preggers. Girls will start paying attention. 2) In the state of the economy as it is, there will be less and less affluent teens who have a lot of free time on their hands. 3) The pushback against abstinence-only education, will help teach kids what they need to know. Knowledge is power. Really teach them about sex, and let them make their own minds.

No kidding; a lot of girls have shitty parents.

Peers have much, much more influence than parents on sexual behaviour.

I think you're way wrong. Things might appear that way, and no doubt most teens will tell you the same thing, but I think parents influence kids (in the first 10+ years of their lives) much more than their peers overall.

I agree with Xax, and I hope you understood his point: if you have good parents you are more likely than not to talk with them freely. However, I don't think that means no oral sex, it just means you'll see it coming (no pun intended).

It's not a matter of opinion. In the first 10 years, yes, parents have a ton of influence over their children. However, it's been shown by plenty of research in developmental psychology that as a child enters adolescence and develop their sense of independence, peer values and opinions outweigh parents'. This is especially true for sexual behaviour and drug use.

Does good parenting matter? Of course, but it may be hard for parents to believe just how much of their child's development is out of their control.

Also, no matter how great a parent you are, or how open you are about sex around your children, if you think that your children are going to hold no secrets from you, you are out of your mind.

Honestly so what? As long as they use condoms I couldn't care less. Just because older generations have monogamous religious preconceptions on sex doesn't mean it needs to or ever will be projected on younger generations. That's not to say I think prostitution at a young age is a good thing, but where you're willing to exploit yourself for the kind of petty things that this clip suggests like homework, and if that's even true, then that has to come down to a lack of self confidence, self worth and ultimately bad parenting.

There was a study somewhere that actually called Bullshit on this. Even if I just imagined it I don't really believe this kinda thing is true. Sounds like one of those "The Kids Aren't Alright" cries for help every generation seems to have.

Bullshit. I don't believe there's any way to accurately compare 10 years of parental influence with influences from teenaged peers. How could they possibly study that with any degree of accuracy or credibility? Did they have a live-in researcher in each of the families' houses for 10 years? If not, how could they reliably know what kind of parenting the kids received?
