One Step Closer to the Matrix: Meet Humanoid Robot REEM-B

The next wave of humanoid robot is here. REEM-B was just revealed this month (April 2008). He has the longest lasting battery: up to 2 hours of autonomous activity. He can walk at a 1.5 km/h clip and also traverse stairs. It has a stunning face tracking and recognition software system, and it can interact with common objects in front of it (such as pour itself a drink).

From www.pal-robotics.com: "
Software: Both the robots can perform face recognition, object recognition, voice recognition and walking. In addition, REEM-B can generate autonomously a map of its environment and avoid obstacles.

Battery Autonomy: The autonomy of the robot was increased. REEM-B is thebiped humanoid with the longest autonomy time in the world.

Degrees of Freedom: REEM-B has fingered hands with 4 fingers and 10 motors each. The final goal is to make the robot able to manipulate common objects.

Payload: One of the key features of REEM-B is its strength. It can lift and transport heavy objects up to 20- 25% of its own weight. This makes REEM-B one of the strongest biped humanoids in the world.

Walking Speed: The new design makes REEM-B able to go up and downstairs. Skill is still under development.

Sensors: REEM-B is equipped with new sensors to help him navigating indoor environments and avoid obstacles."
