Now I know he also wants to increase funding for "safety net" programs like Medicaid and SCHIP, but to me his proposals still make health care coverage complex. We need a single-payer system. It's the only way to make sure everyone has access to this right. What does a person do who just lost his job, who use to have health insurance? Go down and apply for Medicaid first before he visits the doctor the nextt time? Why can't he or she just continue going to the same doctor, regardless of employment status, without worrying about who's going to pay the bill?
Obama's plan is still better than McCain's, but until America goes to a single payer system our health care quality will continue to lag behind the rest of the developed world.
He has, on occasion, said he thinks single payer would be better, he just doesn't see the political will for that at this time.
So in 2009, he's going to go for a no-mandate, largely privatized plan.
Depending on how well people take to it, we may be talking single payer just a few years down the road.
The goal here is to create a coalition of consensus to make change happen, not to ram policies down the throats of conservatives, as the conservatives have done to us over the last 8 years.
You can not create a right. It either exists from the creation of the world, or it does NOT. Rights are NOT created by the government. Those are called privileges.
The government is not a breast that fills itself with milk. It only has what it has taken from others. To supply everyone with its own brand of health care it must take the resources necessary from the rest of the populace. Call it what it is: Communism.
Just so there is no misconceptions, 'McCalin' is equal to 'Obiden' in every substantial respect. It is totally irrelevant which enters the white house. They will both violate the Constitution and the rights of the people with equal severity.
And Universal Health Care is one of those rights.
