Brilliant.
Granted I'm working on the assumption that marching into a freshly nukes area is probably bad for your health, but I wonder if they had any idea of the risks (the soldiers that is).
"Uh, Sir, what about our faces?"
"What are you, a Commie?"
> through that stuff.
I dont think they were exposed to fallout, or radiation. The radiation sick/kill zone around these small nukes is actually tiny. If you avoid the fallout, your OK.
"Hey, Sarge, I think we just irradiated Utah!"
I wonder if the GI bill pays for schools for the blind.

Erm... except:
From This page about experiences with the Nevada tests shows the US military's horrendous treatment of their own populous during this:
So... yeah, trying to suggest that these nukes were 'safe' is a little insane.
In fact read the rest of that page, with interviews with soldiers posted on during those tests... a calous disregard for the well being of people and animals was shown by the US Government during that time. And I'm sure those with the disregard explained it all away with the bullshit reasoning of 'It's for the safety of the nation'
I'm going to guess this was at the Nevada Test Site. Man, that must have been a sight to see in real life. That being said, I'm glad I wasn't there (and hopefully never actually see it either...)
Actually this looks like it was filmed in New Mexico, about a 30 minute drive up 54 from El Paso Texas. I was stationed in El Paso for a few years and have been in this area several times. Its called McGregor Base camp, and another 30-45 minutes from there a place called Oro Grande, where I know for a fact that the US used to station troops during nuclear tests. I say New Mexico, because the opening scene of the convoy driving down the long road with the mountains in the back looks strikingly familiar. That long road is what goes from 54 to McGregor, and that skyline looks very close to what I remember. Of course I could be wrong.

People used to book vacations to las vegas to be able to join in all the wholesome 'bomb watching' and 'fall out breathing'.
