faith, real or not, is very powerful. people desire judgement.
nobody would accept civic planning that had freeways dumping into the ocean and call it "part of a larger, perfect plan". God is the ultimate in abusive relationships. "He only makes me suffer cuz he loves me".
That aside, it's great that this guy is able to get on and live his life to the fullest.
In any case, for those who think that religion was some sort of detriment to him, do note that he was suicidal at one point in his life. Yet now he does a lot of charity work for others who are disabled. Without religion, would his life have had such a positive outcome?
And is it appalling for someone to be doing good at all? If he's doing good because of something he believes in wholeheartedly, of his own free will, then how can it be appalling? How can it be slavery? Sure he was taught these things when he was growing up, but it was his choice whether to accept and believe in them or not. There are plenty who choose not to. If he has the freedom to cast aside his beliefs whenever he wishes, then it is no form of slavery.
On another note, religion can't be referred to as a lie, because it has yet to be proven true or false. There are those who believe there's sufficient argument for a certain religion to be true, and thus they follow it. There are those who find that there's enough argument that there is no religion, so they don't follow it. So from point of view, religion can be true or not. But to this day, there's no way to conclusively disprove most religions. One can't go and say "There is no god, and that's a FACT" because that fact can not be proven. Therefore, one can't refer to it as a lie, but merely a conjecture.
And if you mean whether Jesus existed, that's a definite. The only argument is whether he did the things he did.
The one in this video is more of a modern-day praise music genre, most of which are simple, repetitive, and BORING. The music mainly stems from various Christian rock bands and the like.
The next genre is the older music, some of which was composed earlier this century. Also notable is the Zion's Harp. (A very well known songbook.) These are more traditional sounding hymns, that have a bit more complexity and are a lot more enjoyable to listen to. (For me at least.)
And finally, there's the old-style classical stuff, done by Bach, Handel, etc. I think everyone can agree that this stuff is awesome.
But in any case, it all depends on the listener. There are those that would definitely enjoy this music. I'm just not one of them.
