"The Man Who Sold the World" is a song by David Bowie. It is the title track of his third album, released in the U.S. in November 1970 and in the UK in April 1971. It was later re-popularised and introduced to a new generation by Nirvana's cover on their MTV Unplugged in New York album. In the wake of this cover, Bowie bemoaned the fact that when he performed the number himself he would encounter "kids that come up afterwards and say, 'It's cool you're doing a Nirvana song.' And I think, 'Fuck you, you little tosser!'" (Thanks Wikipedia)

In my book this is the best cover ever recorded. If you can think of a better on, be my guest.

Glad they dropped out that cello on the record... annoying at the end.

Great post, Zifnab. I have this on an ancient cd that is worn out, especially on this song. This is probably my favorite most excellent cover of this song, and what a performance! Bittersweet to see this.

This is a great album. I pull it out on the weekend, if I'm ever by myself and want to feel extra-grungy. The slightly out-of-tune guitars make it.

They cut out Kurt saying "that's a David Bowie song" at the end.

This is the album of my middle school years. (Probably a good reason why I'm so messed up)

One of my favourate songs. I prefer the live bowie version myself. Cant say Im much of a Nirvana fan, although I can play a couple of their songs on drums. I respect what they've done for/to music.

I always thought that the bassist looked like Andy Kaufman.

Best unplugged show ever :
Pearl Jam
Alice in Chains
Nirvana
