The US Navy has just completed a 10-megajoule test fire of their huge rail gun. For the first time ever, they fired a projectile with a velocity of 8,270 feet per second. Crazy stuff. I'd love to actually see the damage done as well though.
Me too....guess that part hasn't been "unclassified" yet.
According to this engineering page a 1000kg car travelling at 90km/h has only 320,000 joules of kinetic energy. So this tiny flechette has 30 times more energy than that???? AND that's only a third of its capacity?? FUUUUCK!
