NASA Delta-II Rocket Explodes Mere Seconds into Launch

In 1997, NASA and the USAF launched this Delta II Rocket carrying a $45 million dollar GPS satellite. Mere seconds into lift off it exploded, raining fireballs of destruction and hazardous waste all over the surrounding area.

Unfortunately, last week a similar disaster happened. An X-1 rocket carrying two experiments exploded 27 seconds into lift off on August 22, 2008 after being launched from the Wallops Island Facility in Virginia.
