Elephants are pretty intelligent. It is more likely I think that the elephants were freaked out more by the seemingly magical ele-shit moving around on its own that by the mouse.

A lab-white mouse in the wild? sure elephants get scared, all wild animals are programmed by evolution to be scared of anything out-of-place in their natural environment, elephants also have poor sight, so a brightly coloured moving thing on the ground is likely to rise suspicion of something that screams "Stay Away" rather than "please dont eat me". Ie: a poisonous snake.

Agree with Throb and Bicycle.

Needs a control where the just roll the shit around. Their eyesight isn't that great, but theres no way they missed that magical shit pile jump around in front of them.

Unless they have a compelling reason (food, territory, sex, etc.), smart animals tend to reflexively not take chances.

looks to me like its not actually scared..but avoiding.

Honestly, i'm a 6'1 grown man, and i'd rather not actually step on a mouse..maybe it's just smart enough to think "I'd rather not walk around with mouse remnants on the bottom of my foot for days"
