Most Epic Marriage Proposal Ever!

***PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION FIRST***
From Youtube via Neatorama:

I have know my fiance Tracey Wade for over 14 years and wanted to propose to her in a very unique way. Tracey thought we were just going to the movies on a Sunday afternoon. Little did she know, I had rented the entire theater and filled it with 160 of our friends and family. I made it seem as though we were showing up a little late to the movie and went in to the theater after the lights had gone down and the movie trailers were already playing. This was done to keep her from recognizing anyone in the theater. What I had done was make an entire movie trailer that had actors portraying both Tracey and I at different times in our lives, both present day and in the future. After a few trailers played including one for Lord of the Rings the one I had made started. Tracey thought it was just another trailer for a movie soon to be released. Tracey was just perplexed as to how many different things had similarities to our relationship, she kept nudging me throughout the trailer. Tracey had no idea this was a marriage proposal until the last three seconds of the trailer.

Nine months earlier in September of 2006 I started by hiring a professional production team, securing two and a half million dollars (FOR FREE) worth of film equipment (THANK YOU PANAVISION, THEY DONATED THE EQUIPMENT FOR THE SHOOT), and writing a script that would show what would go through someone’s mind (Tracey’s) if they were about to die. It is said “moments before you die your life flashes right before your eyes”. JUST A NOTE: Ever since Tracey was a young girl, she has had a reoccurring dream that she was going to die in a plane crash. Actors were cast to portray both Tracey and I at different times in our lives (twenty years in the future as well as present day)

OK, my comments:
* A huge amount of effort, which is pretty darn cool
* Nicely planned
* Good work securing free equipment

But I have questions (which I haven't found answers to in a brief net search):
* How much out of pocket was he over this? The equipment was given, but he hired a professional production crew for f*ck's sake... that's not cheap!
* What does he do for a living? Is it in this business, or unrelated?

I find this to be most cool, but if he is loaded then it kind of irks me, because many of us have grand ideas for certain cool things to do, but are stopped due to lack of funds... I don't know many people (I do know a few) who could fun a production crew for a marriage proposal.

So... pretty cool, but I prefer creative propsals that have had a lot of effort but don't require huge expenditures of money to realize.

Is it wrong that I sometimes wonder if I was on a plane, going down like that, I would be standing up tearing my clothes off screaming "WERE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!"

Knowing my luck, the pilot would pull a miracle, then I would be standing there naked, and feeling very awkward.

If they do things like horseback competitions, yachting, exotic vacations, and he RENTED A FREAKING MOVIE THEATER, on top of the fact he hired actors, a production crew, AND filmed in exotic locations, then yeah, I'd say he is a freaking hugely rich showoff douchebag.
Oh, and I'm a recently engaged girl, btw. I just found it pretentious and self-important.

I seriously doubt Panavision would donate cameras and equipment to anyone who wanted to make a proposal video. This guy had to know someone important at Panavision.

Also, did anyone else notice all the cool things they did during the 'life flashing before their eyes' montage? Sure it doesn't cost a lot to go to a baseball game or skydive, but sailing your own boat typically requires some decent cash. And seeing how they're at a 'Dodgers' game, I'm gonna just assume they live in Los Angeles, and docking a boat out here can be expensive. And the wifey-to-be is a 'show jumper' which seems like something privileged hoity-toity people do.

And he hired a production team. And that looks like it was shot on film, or if HD it still looks like it was color-timed and sound mixed which costs big dollars. And did you see the rock on that ring?!

I was completely jealous for about five seconds then realized he's getting married and all felt right in the world again.

seems to me like a much better ending would have been the movie couple going to a movie theater and having the actor baldy propose... and then like the film melts or something and the lights come up and the real guy proposes.

The guy pulls that off and he's a "douche"?! Not likely, but if he isn't rich he's either going to be or wants something else out of life -- he's got the right temperament to become wealthy.

Douche? How many douches that you know would go to that amount of long-term effort to put this together? And on top of that, how many douches do you know who would put this much effort into a MARRIAGE proposal? For a one night stand with a model maybe... for marriage? psh. not.

As for the expense? If you're married, think about how much you would be willing to have spent if you could make your proposal this special. If you're not, think of how much work and money you'd be willing to spend to make it really amazing and unforgettable. This ain't your "we should talk about whether or not to get married" talk. This is a "LET'S DO THIS, LOVE!" moment.

This is a really great idea that was poorly executed, in my opinion. I saw nothing substantial or sentimental here, at all; only worldly, self-fellating exhibitionism. Hallmark, Hallmark, Hallmark. However, that could just be my shallow perception of not being able to personally relate with the lifestyle portrayed.

I appreciate all of the interesting ideas as to what I do or if I'm loaded...

1) What do I do for a living? I was in sales at the time I made the trailer.
2) Am I loaded? Nope, don't even have a job right now.

First of all I'm not loaded, I was able to get mostly everything donated for the film shoot. Yes it did cost a bit... but was able to make a connection through my neighbor at the time for the film equipment. Dozens of people donated their time and services. The people who helped loved my idea and wanted to be a part of it, simple as that. As far as Tracey and the horses are concerned, she used to be a teacher who taught kids and adults how to jump. As far as the sailboat... been sailing my entire life, finally bought my boat 5 years ago for a whopping $1,200, and sold it last year because it cost way to much for my slip in the marina.

The part that cost the most was renting the theater for the afternoon, $700.

Right now I'm unemployed, Tracey and I are married, and have a baby on the way in Feb. 2010.

Thanks for all the kind remarks and even the not so kind remarks. They make Tracey and I laugh our asses off!

^ Thanks for clearing some of that up! It's cool to see the actual creator right here on VideoSift.
I personally thought it was great. Plans of that proportion can be difficult to actually carry through.
I wish you, your wife, and your child-to-be all the best.

C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!

All I have to say is 14 years....if you've been alive for 30, 40, 50 years and you don't have any "exotic" looking memories like whats shown in this video; then you probably need to re-evaluate what you are spending your money on. Almost anyone regardless of income can afford to see a baseball game, to skydive, to go on a deep sea fishing trip, and take a once a year trip to some faraway location...maybe not every month but in 14 years??

I mean come on people, you can fly to almost any region of the world for under $1000 last I checked.
