An introduction to the philosophy of Montaigne. Full episode from a series based on "The Consolations of Philosophy" by Alain De Botton. Here, De Botton focuses on Montaigne's efforts to encourage people to accept their bodies and animal nature without shame. Relevant as ever in these days of eating disorders and obesity. He also explores issues of tolerance and open-mindedness; and how travel can encourage these virtues, while authorities and "the establishment" discourage them.

According to Wikipedia:
Michel Eyquem de Montaigne-Delecroix was one of the most influential writers of the French Renaissance. Montaigne is known for popularizing the essay as a literary genre. He became famous for his effortless ability to merge serious intellectual speculation with casual anecdotes and autobiography — and his massive volume Essais (translated literally as "Attempts") contains, to this day, some of the most widely influential essays ever written.
