Minnesota politics gets goofy

Review of challenged ballots in the recount for the MN seat for US Senate brings some welcome comic relief in the name of write-in candidates on challenged ballots: Lizard People and Flying Spaghetti Monster, with a little Frankenstin [sic] for good measure.

I imagine the folks writing in FSM and Lizard People, after seeing this video, must feel like their tax dollars are finally going to a good (humorous) cause. If you can't beat them, waste their time, am I right?

This makes me smile and wounds my brain all at the same time.

So, if I want to write a name in the field, but not fill in the dot to indicate that I'm voting, they will take the fact that I wrote something in the write in field as a vote for that write in, despite the fact that the dot isn't filled in.

Check.

Humans are retarded.

Check.

Yeah, I was rather amazed that simply writing in a name counts as a vote for that person even if you didn't fill in the oval. I mean, the other pre-printed names don't get votes unless you fill the oval so why is a write in name any different in that regard?

What if you were going to vote for a write in but changed your mind but figured you were O.K because you never filled in the oval? I guess the lesson here is not to play around if you want to be sure your vote really counts.
