BTW, not voting cuz I just don't like Michael Moore, even though he's right about the issues.
i think a very central idea in social democracy is that we are together responsible for each other, absolutely every single one of our fellow citizens. and that will be at the cost of values that are more prominent where the individual is the focus seperate from the rest of the people.
that backside is that a system like that can be exploited. (but which system cant when you know how). so putting it in a very simplified way: it's a choice of do you want to care about everyone and take the cost of that, or do you want to "look after #1".
one of the most often cited delusions from the US perspective on our whole "social democracy" model, is that we are drowning in taxes.. and my answer to that, is simply, "have you thought this through ?" I mean our high taxes have basically one major downside, outsourcing, and that hasnt killed us yet. What most americans seems to think is that if they pay more taxes, their private economy collapses, but why should it? even if every american paid 40% taxes, if EVERYBODY did it, it wouldnt really matter, because wages would go up etc.. the whole point is to find a stable, sustainable model with the potential for growth. If it helps you and your country it doesnt matter whether you pay 5%, 30% or 80% taxes, the important thing is the balance towards good results.. Its simple scare tactics to say that "THEY will take YOUR money", it just doesnt work like that.
But it´s no lie. Just rosy. I have spent some time in hospitals, and i have thought more than once about how good it is that this can´t cost more than the norwegian eq. of 296 USD.
If Norway was inflicted with private health care, my right hand would probably have been amputated (im not joking). I think leaving the health of people in the hands of market economy is really f***ed.
I have been in a swedish hospital too. They let me stay there eventhough i wasn´t hurt, gave me a bed and food and everything so i could stay with my injured friends.
Taxes are no problem, i love the consept. But the politicians who decide where the taxes go can be a problem.
