Ron Paul asks John McCain on whether he believes the President's Working Group on Financial Markets should disclose its activities or continue acting in secrecy, supposedly manipulating the stock markets.
The Working Group on Financial Markets, informally known as the Plunge Protection Team (PPT) was created by Ronald Reagan under an executive order after the crash of 87 with the mandate of providing solutions for "enhancing the integrity, efficiency, orderliness, and competitiveness of [United States] financial markets and maintaining investor confidence".
The PPT is widely believed to manipulate stock markets to prevent/delay crashes, as witnessed on January 23rd, 2008. Members of the PPT have never disclosed information regarding its operation, even when questioned by the Congress.
