Legalize it and make good profit. Along with destroying the cigarette trade, which is fine with me.

Would undoubtably help our ailing economy - tourism, hemp byproducts, savings/redirection of funds wasted on enforcement, prosecution and punishmnet...

Marijuana is bad, m'kay?

Though the Netherlands is a good example of how decriminalization has worked and is effective, my country seems to be heading in the wrong direction again. The Christian right wing of our coalition would like to see marijuana made illegal again. They are trying to make it as hard as possible for coffeeshops to operate and are clamping down hard on the production of marijuana and the supply to the coffeeshops which is not decriminalized. This all while the mayors representing the big cities who actually deal with the marijuana issues want to start experimenting with regulating the production of marijuana.

The Christian right wing has also succeeded in making magic mushrooms illegal. All this was based on a media hype involving a few tragic incidents with magic mushrooms. One french girl committed suicide while she was under the influence and a few British tourists flipped out while combining alcohol with mushrooms. Something like 95% of the problems were with tourists. This is not strange because many of them come to the Netherlands to try them out, and often times do it without proper education and in a bad environment. While the government was passing these laws the public health and drug institutions were issuing reports that criminalizing mushrooms would not be productive and would actually harm public health. This seems so similar to how American prohibition and drug laws were undertaken.

I hope my government will change soon and seek the road of progress. We should be further legalizing and regulating the drug trade not the opposite. But even if our government would like this international pressure has always been hard on our drug laws.

Im not sure what wheat or corn sells for per pound, but weed comes in at about $3200-$4000. Im guessing that would get you a shit load of corn.

The study estimates that marijuana production, at a value of $35.8 billion, exceeds the combined value of corn ($23.3 billion) and wheat ($7.5 billion).

Conversation on Marijuana
Billy: You know, this weed, right? This weed should be totally, uhm, *puff* Like this weed, you see here, yeah? It should be legit to inhai, to shmo.. to do, right?
Jimmy: ... ... Yeah!
Billy: Cause you know.. the government, would like *puff*
Jimmy: Man, I'm hungry.
Billy: I was just about to say that, talking fridge!

The next day Jimmy was found with his brains scooped out by a melon baller.

Still think drugs are cool??

Brought to you by gwiz665's buzzkill service - if you have a buzz, I'll scoop out your brains.

This whole thing was trite and generally sucky, but John Morgan near the end especially bugged me. "Let's talk about the health issues!"

"...it relieved pain. It lowered the likelihood of nausea and vomiting...it relieved muscle cramps...it increased appetite...the most dangerous thing about marijuana is to be arrested for its possession or use. That's more harmful than any pharmacological or toxicological or other harm (are there any physical harms? What are they and why don't they matter?)...marijuana is one of the most safe psychoactive compounds that people have ever ingested (???)...the data and the discussion indicates that marijuana is largely safe."

Largely safe. Does that mean that it sometimes unsafe? The argument would have been much stronger if they had discussed some actual facts. We know that marijuana is largely safe, but let's not be vague about this thing. Why didn't they actually produce some evidence (it isn't as if it is hard to find) that it is largely safe?

Any truth in this video was smothered by the utter banality and weakness of most of the information.

A well-presented case against marijuana prohibition would be cool and interesting to watch. This is not it.

I ranted a little bit. Forgive.

Needs to be legalised.. to quote mr. hicks.. you're out on the town, there's a bunch of people being violent and disruptive, are they drunk or stoned?

The only concern i have is what heavy long term use does to you, because i've seen some aging zombies in my time and that's a shame - but their choice, just as liver failure is a choice to heavy alcohol users.

Marijuana is a fantastic drug, i've had some great times on marijuana and never ever a bad time. It makes me feel better, it helps depression, it helps with pain, it's a natural growing plant on our planet. Who the fuck are your government to tell you what innocent and victimless things you can or can't do with your life?

The only reason anyone can say "it's not victimless" is because of criminals selling it. Criminals sell it because it's illegal. And a lot of people grow their own in non-illegal (other than breaking the marijuana law) way.

Seriously, the government should not be involved in marijuana control. It's not up to them what we do with our lives. Countries and governments exist because humans formed them to give themselves protection and a better life. Not to dominate us and keep us in bondage.

Edit: lol, gonna leave that last line even though it looks like i'm referring to S&M

Upvote for the terrible acting from the studio "audience".

I was a little disappointed they didn't mention that the oil, timber, and cotton industries were behind much of the early marijuana prohibition. Industrial Hemp, something you wouldn't want to smoke, was the primary target of early legislation, the government used the propaganda about reefer to distract the masses.

^and yet, it's probably OK for said friend to drink a couple of beers or have a scotch to take the edge off. That's the hypocrisy of it.

Pretty weak, but if somebody would follow this up with more technical information and comprehensive study results, it might be a decent introduction. We really need to reach the people who are scared by politician's rhetoric, and they might not be open to statistics right off the bat.

That part about "marijuana" vs "cannabis" pretty much sums up the whole debate. By the way, I've heard hemp is different from marijuana. Is that just BS? Same plant, right?

Yeah! Wasn't it Rush Limbaugh who advocated life sentences for pot users, while pounding down handfuls of illegally procured pharmaceutical narcotics!

I don't suppose you have any friends that smoke or drink either since both tobacco and alcohol are mind-altering drugs. You should probably avoid chocolate, and caffeinated beverages as well.

They're the same family of plant, but they're not the same plants. Kinda like how the different varieties of roses are all the similar plants but they're not the same. If you tried to smoke industrial hemp you wouldn't get high, and would probably get sick. Industrial hemp is only good for producing fibers and seeds. And IIRC it is also an excellent CO2 processor.

Interesting tidbit, hops the plant that flavors beer is a member of the cannabis family. Remember that next time some beer swilling shit head starts bitching about pot smokers.

Yes, unlike you, how dare they have a mind to alter?

Pot smokers tend to be free thinkers and that's part of the reason the establishment pushes this drug war shit.

In a way, it's a question of keeping people in line and knowing who's "out of line" and pot smoking is an easy and shitty way for the power-fucks to know who is who.

Every anti-pot person I've ever met in my life was a fucking bone-head.
