They should call it the Samba de la muerte. After kicking off last night's live broadcast of Dancing with the Stars with a lively samba performance, Marie Osmond fainted. Moments before dropping through her dance partner's arms like a sack of sequined potatoes, Osmond was jumping around and giggling at the judges' comments.

"She was laughing and then sank like a stone … Everyone froze," ABC publicist Amy Astley told Associated Press.

As the camera zoomed out to show Osmond splayed out on the dance floor, the program quickly cut to commercial. After the break, host Tom Bergeron did his best to inform viewers of Osmond's condition.

"I want to just quote her exactly … The first words out of her mouth when she saw us all leaning over her were, 'Oh, crap,;" said Bergeron. It remains unclear as to whether Osmond was reacting to her on-air fall, or to agreeing to being a Dancing with the Stars contestant.

After commercial, Osmond was seen back on her feet awaiting the judges' scores. Dance partner, Jonathan Roberts, though, was seen spooning the mother of eight tightly enough to keep her from a repeat spill.

Osmond, who turned 48 on Oct. 13, explained away the incident, saying on-air with a giggle that "once in awhile that happens to me when I get winded. I stop breathing." Yikes. ABC, however, is expecting Osmond to undergo a medical examination before the next episode, AP reports.
