Man videoing DUI arrest is himself arrested

A man who is videotaping a DUI arrest is ordered detained. He is thrown to the ground, handcuffed and searched. He was later released. This was in Orlando Florida.

For all you that know the law. What would you suspect that he was detained for? Something like interfering with a police action. Maybe due to him not being on his own property? I have to think this is what bad cops do when they dont like you filming them.

This is wrong. If cops can't perform their duties openly, it implies to me that perhaps they aren't doing the jobs that they should be doing.

Furthermore, I don't think there is any law that says a person has to be standing on their own property or face arrest.

To Rotty - Sigh, I would comment back explaining the numerous reason as to why your comment is unjust and ignorant BUT... Anyone posting a comment like that on the internet would lack the capacity needed to comprehend my statement. Nor would they have the articulation necessary to formulate a coherent response.

No there are three people here.

man being arrested for DUI is videotaped by man who gets arrested and all of it filmed on a cameraphone by a man who almost gets arrested.

It is illegal to interfere in arrest or investigation. It is illegal to not follow a police order. It is illegal in some places to film without both parties permission (or at least the audio is illegal). It is illegal to film from someone else's property (and there did not appear to be sidewalks). It is illegal to be standing in the roadway filming.

Pick one. Cops just don't like it when they tell you to get lost and you do not. I almost got arrested for watching a crazy arrest from a sidewalk. This stupid cop lady kept telling me I had to move, so I would take a step backwards and ask if it was ok to observe from there. I kept asking her to tell me where it was safe to observe from (I was already 30ft away from the arrest). They get really mad if your rights somehow conflict with their arbitrary feeling of authority.

You might be right, JoeDirt, but I think that public place is public property.

Angie Jolie and Brad Pitt probably never sign releases for the road-side sneak attacks launched on them by tabloid swine.

Bottom line, in my opinion: nobody has to ask anybody's permission to videotape news-worthy events.

When we start arresting people for filming such things, all it does is keep the truth from being told.

Thats the way police are here in Orlando. There was a big stink here for a while that cops were arresting people that didnt carry I.D. until the local radio guy Jim Phillips made a big deal about it. This is probably one of the worst places i've been as far as they go.
