I can't imagine why anyone would hold a grudge against the people who carved up their genitals as a child.

Anyone else read the book, Saharasia? Goes into how the history of these genital mutilation practices came as a result of the patriarchal child rearing practices during the desertification of the fertile crescent.

I've come to believe that circumcision, like corporal punishment and infant swaddling, are archaic and arcane practices of a bygone era.

It seems crazy that any parents except religious fundamentalists still circumcise their children.

With condoms these days, and proper hygene, we probably do not need circumcision any more...

My boyfriend's family was appalled when we didn't get our son circumcised. They're very religious and wanted it purely for that reason. They're also mortified that we aren't married which is a never-ending bitch session that makes me want to stab myself in the face but that's another story for another day.

In my mind, there is no good reason to perpetuate genital mutilation. Especially not because of religion. *shudders*
