dagsays...Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)
Big glasses of straight vodka - a bit harsh for my tastes. But then vodka makes me want to vomit.
kronosposeidonsays...I'm not a big vodka drinker myself, but when I do drink it I'd like it to have less bite than the cheap shit has.
Now GIN makes me want to vomit. After 2 or 3 quarts I begin to feel pretty sick.
choggiesays...tried it, in fact, drinking 5 filtered McCormick's right now(used a Britta pitcher)...it really works, but unlike an Absolut, the proof of the McCormicks does not change, just the smoothness......and with Absolut, well, you are paying for the filtration......
kronosposeidonsays...^Success! This is what Sifting is all about - Making cheap booze less revolting. Another heart warming story.
joedirtsays...Ok, I'm not so sure part of this isn't placebo. choggie, have someone blind taste test you with switched around glasses.
I'm thinking even cheap crappy vpdka went through decent industrial filtering, so I have toruble believing it does all that much. Now of course, if it is all plastic taste that ruins cheap vodka, and somehow carbon filters suck up plastic odor/taste molecules, then this would work.
Also, do NOT try this with a used filter. I'm guessing from my little Alton Brown based knowledge you will be dissolving and freeing up some previously filter nastiness.
MINKsays...if you can't do this with cheap weed, i'm not interested.
btw for those of you who don't like vodka, you need to try the real stuff, with all those funny russian letters on it. mmmmmm.
or if you are totally hardcore, go to Belarus, get horseradish vodka, it's unreal.
JAPRsays...Yeah, we tried this a few weeks ago, and it worked like a charm. Cheapass 7 buck Poporov or whatever, filtered it twice, and it tasted great.
joemawlmasays...wow, I thought everyone on earth already knew about this trick. If you're really interested in filtering vodka, buy a Vodkastick. I've been using one for years. It contains the equivalent of about 5 Brita filters inside a PVC pipe.
