That's incredible. I've never seen or heard about anything like that before and I've been diving plenty of times.

Does anyone know more about this? It doesn't look like an anemone to me, more like a filter-feeding worm or something.

Pretty dramatic; reminds me of touch sensitive nyctinastic plants, but a bit more dramatic when the branches and everything can also be constricted underwater.

some little mimosas here;

I used to play with plants like that all the time when I was a kid, great fun when you're 4.

It seems to be something other than an anemone. The branching structure of the fronds would indicate something else. The tentacles of tube-dwelling worms, however, tend to be more radial. Based on the branching structure, I'm guessing these are the tentacles is a variety of sea cucumber. A very large one, however. Are there any marine biologists here on the 'sift?

Yup, it's a sea cucumber. Order Dendrochirotida
Notice the pentaradial symetry.. that tells you that it's an echinoderm and not a worm.

One of these latched onto my face last night while diving. It was gone when I woke up. I'm going to breakfast now.
