What an awesome invention.

However, what happens when I program a new knock while drunk and am never able to enter my apartment again?

im afraid you'll have to spend the remainder of your existence in the hallway!

that was awesome. But if you are going to have a secret knock, shave and a hair cut should be the last thing you pick. Maybe that's why he changed it.

I have a hard time thinking of any reasonably usable knock that wouldn't be easy to eavesdrop on.

Fun, but total security fail.

Maybe if you just make one silent button which you rhythmically press instead of knocking.

Get rid of the PVC and make the thing look half way decent and you got yourself a decent invention that some geek would buy.

As a proof of concept, its brilliant. In production, you'd just replace the entire dead-bolt mechanism, I'm sure.

I'm excited because I just learned that the little tune I've known for years is called "shave and a haircut".

Exactly, or a touch sensitive pad you can just tap your finger on.

Like a doorbell secret knock lock?

Or maybe go one step further and have several buttons labelled 0-9, which you press in order and ... oh wait.

Brilliant item, but wouldn't use it on my front door though. It would be amazingly cool for a secret compartment or secret room door though

This is way less complicated than carrying a .00000000001 pound key.

That was my initial thought.

However, one potential benefit would be the complete removal of external lock components, though I suspect many more locks are defeated by breaking the doorframe than by picking.

Obviously, it's not designed to be a practical device, but I'm still racking my brain trying to come up with practical uses. Perhaps if it were set to "lock only", it would allow someone to lock up after they left.
