Lame-ass British anti-marijuana ad

Congratulations, Great Britain. You are now on par with the lame-ass anti-pot ads of America. And I just want to add this: Neither I nor anyone I have known who has smoked dope has EVER had a fucking panic attack.

When I first started smoking weedski, which wasn't until I was about twenty or so, and I found out that it didn't make me crazy or stupid, the first thing that went through my head was "They've been lying to me."

There are a lot of warnings or bits of advice that young people would do well to receive before smoking pot, but scare tactics will ultimately backfire.

Well Evan though this advert is still an exaggeration (depending on dosage and age) at least its slightly informative compared to some of the worse adverts out there. and Frank as a service is quite well run. my biggest problem is that alcohol is worse than cannabis yet its legal. we do have some anti drinking adverts on tv which are semi nicely done but thay are still pretty stupid.

I totally have a bad trip if I over-consume, but all it does is make me think... too much, possibly, about what? everything... you think about reality and the world and other heavy shit, and... it all seems very big and scary. then you get cold inside and want to not feel the way you feel, but you can't. you're trapped.. temporarily.

and then you go to sleep, you wake up, and eat some food and then realize you just need to handle your business and that's all you can do. and you remember how it feels when your perception is altered yet everything is the same. it's a valuable experience and humbling (to me).

and you play video games a lot!

I saw this ad on tv for the first time a couple of days ago and thought about sifting it under the theme of terrible! I have to say though, I don't get panic attacks as such, but i've recently give up (again!) because it does sometimes make me anxious. The things i've thought were absolutely fine before smoking can all of a sudden seem so daunting. I've always maintained pot is only a great drug when your life has no concerns in it, but eh that's just me

<edit> just saw rottenseeds last comment, that's exactly what i'm getting at

Thanks for sharing that, but please remember that your experience is not consistant with everybody elses.

Some people relax and get mellow. Some people get uptight and paranoid.

Me, I get creative and kind of spiritual. I'm the kind of person who just has to get away from myself sometimes, and booze just doesn't do the trick.

The most dangerous thing about marijuana is its illegality.

I considered phoning up and complaining about this. Maybe if a lot of people did it, they'd sort their shit out.

Few things such as:
Many of the "problems" of marijuana you've depicted are factually spurious, there's little and often no real evidence to show that marijuana does these things to people. And in the cases where people do feel that way, they're outliers. You might as well warn people against the addictive and dangerous drug "coca cola" because certain children, when they over indulge in the caffeine and sugar, exhibit manic behaviour.

You also neglected to show that marijuana is a legal drug in a european country, a successful and peaceful european country, showing quite clearly that regulated marijuana use is both possible and (on evidence) doesn't seem to affect a population in a negative way.

Thirdly, the (spurious) negative aspects of marijuana that you depicted are less traumatising than the negative aspects of alcohol. Addiction rate is arguably higher for alcohol than marijuana (though it's hard to tell when marijuana users are forced to keep a low profile). Why not show us a similar advert showing us an alcohol user's many faces? A party attended by liver failure, over-confidence, violent behaviour, hangover, dizzyness and vomiting? Of course not, because these dangers are largely the domain of habitual over-indulgers, as is ALSO the case with marijuana.

Fourthly, perhaps you should add a disclaimer to the end of the advert below the information that "marijuana has been upgraded to a class B drug". Along the lines of "... against the advice of the government-requested inquiry." Because the inquiry found and advised the government that elevating the class of the drug would be a bad idea, and they did it anyway.

Finally, of course, no mention of the medicinal properties and uses of marijuana. No mention that marijuana is a medically endorsed drug for certain illnesses.

Might actually phone in or write in.. this advert is misinformation shown in a biased way.

I can't wait for the follow up advert about alcohol, where the party with [Sociable] and [Relaxed] gets crashed by [Angry], [Violent], [Clumsy], [Nausea], [Memory Loss], [Cirrhosis], [Vomiting], [Depression] and [Death].

And then we're reminded to drink responsibly.

Kerotansays...

Well, from the whole alcohol is worse than pot angle, there is no escaping the fact that alcohol has been acceptable for a long time, and is embedded in culture, I think that the familiarity with alcohol has breed contempt, and like all the posters in chemistry labs every where say, "familiarity with a substance does not reduce its a ability to do harm".

Really, in terms of alcohol, people who call themselves adults need to get some responsibility, since I don't think that an advert saying "Don't drink if you are incapable of drinking in manageable amounts would either go down too well with the general public, or be very effective. In this country at least, people need to learn that if you got severely rat faced and wake up somewhere you don't know where, and didn't cause a car crash, get impregnated, start a fight, stab someone, rape someone/get raped, kill someone (I'm not saying every drunken night ends in murder), that it wasn't a great night, you just got lucky.

On marjuana, the jury is still out for me, but since I'm not under any motivation to smoke it, I don't.
