Nowadays this story would be accompanied with the phrase "child abuse" or "bail was set at $80,000".

It's true that nowadays, people in general seem pretty stupid about things. You can't turn around without seeing someone doing something stupid.

But the world of the near past, particularly the era depicted above, was a different place and time. Now there was a special kind of stupid.
