Jon Stewart and Jason Jones lament that they must treat Obama the same way they treated Bush.

"It's like, cheese is delicious on Italian food but when you melt it on Chinese food, it's disgusting."

Very good, very good.

See you right wingers... it's not like the 'left wing' media is going to give Obama a free ride.

I'm all for Obama and really hope he's going to do the Right Thing (tm)... but you can't just let slide things he may do badly.

I loved this. Part of it is simply the fact that there are certain things a president almost has to say, but it still bears bringing to light that those similarities exist.

He may be regurgitating the same Bush speeches, but on his first day he talked about closing Gitmo and opening the Freedom of Information Act. Thus, he's already better than Bush.

Although I felt the same as Jason Jones during this skit, I'm always amazed at how great Jon Stewart's commentary is. That he warns us to stay critical and aware on the very first day of Obama's presidency is- I think -something I didn't see anywhere else in the news. Bravo!

This is totally missing the point. The politicians say those things because they are axioms. Everybody wants peace, everybody wants to defend our way of life from those who seem to want us to change.

The difference is their tactics in accomplishing these goals. Do we roll over random countries with our military and openly torture foreign citizens? Or do we use diplomacy and non-violent negotiations?

The substance of the inauguration speech was basically a bitch-slap in Bush's face, putting the responsibility for ruining the reputation of the US squarely on the previous administration. The coming changes were made very, very clear.

Sigh. I hope the Daily Show doesn't completely implode now that Bush is gone.

^ It's not missing the point at all, I think you did. I don't think at all that Stewart etc. actually think that Obama is like Bush on these issues, what is being said here is that it's easy to fall into the trap of whooping and hollering no matter what Obama says. You have to stay critical, you can't say 'YEAH! RIGHT ON!' when Obama says the same things that Bush said. You CAN when he DOES things differently and through entirely different means than Bush.

But this is all about remaining critical, NOT actually having a go at what he said per se.

The difference is, Obama really means what he says.

But Stewart wasn't being critical of Obama's actions or policies. He was making fun of Obama for using the same Peace and Strong Defense rhetoric as Bush. We the people want peace, and a strong defense against terrorists against other threats. So making fun of a politician for saying those things is pointless, because EVERY politician will say them. That's like making fun of Obama because he stands behind a podium just like Bush did, gasp! Stewart isn't making fun of the crowd's support, he's making fun of Obama's words and strong tone. It's just too generic.

I'm always stuck by how relevant/appropriate the little clips they air from days past are, despite from whence they might have come .... I wonder how they sort through them all so quickly ...

I tell ya when the Daily Show is on their game, there isn't anyone else on TV that are funnier.

I would try to write something smart but MaxWilder already did it for me. There's no substantive accusations here, just perhaps TDS setting itself up its future Obama coverage.

I missed a prior bit about Cheney that I heard was funny. Has that been sifted?

Attention blocked Canadians: http://www.thecomedynetwork.ca/shows/showdetails.aspx?sid=3350

Search for the January 22 show... I think.

STFU face FTW!!!!! HA HA HA - Clinton = Liberator. "These are people who are not used to cheering." Freeing the State Department. Awesome. "Let the looting begin!"

That was funny - but was it this clip of Jan 21 (Krupo loads Jan 21...)

"At a certain point, are we not running the risk of annoying God?"

Hmm....

Betcha it's Jan 23, not up yet. <sigh>
