even though planes can take off and land remotely ... THIS is the reason we have pilots!!

That was amazing flying. I saw the news breaking story when the plane was circling burning off fuel, but missed the actual landing.

Can anyone explain to me exactly what happened here? The nose gear got stuck but the wheel was down and they were able to land. But what part of that wasn't working?

Deano, if you look at the video while the wheel is down it is facing the wrong way, i.e. for a turn not for a landing. The pilots realized this, if they landed with a high speed on the front wheel it would catch the tarmac, break off and probably crash the entire plane.

So they landed on the rear tires first, and instead of bringing the nose down right after they let it coast while the plane lost speed, and brought the wheel down much later when the speed was less and wouldn't cause a catastrophic landing.

This is what simulator training teaches you.

I remember when this happened, and saw passengers interviewed but never saw the actual landing video. Too bad JetBlue's ground crew aren't as skilled as their pilots.
