Peggy Robertson applied for health insurance with her family. She has had a c-section. They accepted her family, but told her she has to be sterilized before they would cover her.

What.. The.. Hell!?

It's amazing how many hospitals refuse to even try a vaginal birth after c-section.

And it's amazing how many c-sections are performed just to prevent litigation! They wanted to stop me from birthing vaginally three times and c-section me, but I refused, vociferously. They even tried to prevent me from moving to a different position. They want you on your back with your legs in the air. It's so backwards and against nature. My son was presenting face up in the preliminary stages, but he was born face down and normal. No c-section needed. But boy did they try to frighten me into agreeing to it. They had a parade of doctors and nurses trying to scare the crap out of me so I did what they wanted, so it would be easier for them, so I would have my baby "before the nurses changed their shift." WTF?

As a woman, giving birth, you are perhaps more vulnerable and scared than you've ever been in your life and they really try to take advantage of that and press you into doing things that you don't need. Like c-sections, epidurals, breaking your water prematurely, pitocin to induce contractions, not eating for 48 hours, etc etc etc. It's ridiculous. They only do these things to prevent lawsuits.

And look what happens when you do exactly what they want. Oh no, the scarring from your c-section could cause your uterus to rupture if you got pregnant again! Gah.. It really gets my fucking goat. I feel for this woman. I feel for all women who are subjected to having a natural process turned into a medical "emergency".

Wow, I said more than I had intended. TL;DR, eh?

Hospitals like to do C-sections because they earn MORE MONEY for the procedure. They push hard for them. They even tried to convince my wife into having one for her first child, though it was absolutely unnecessary.

The health system is for profit. Their priority is profit. Not care.

But at least you don't have a government bureaucrat between you and your doctor, right?

Two's fine. One to replace you and one to replace your husband. Any more and it's downright selfish and irresponsible.

Also, if they installed a zipper on the first c-section, the second one wouldn't be such a big deal...in fact there would be no need for an ultrasound. The doctor can just unzip you and check in on the little bugger.

A corridor full of people opening and closing doors is a great location for an interview.

Every time I hear horror stories like this on a number of subjects I always slightly feel like Nelson from the Simpsons, pointing my finger at America and saying HAHA. But then I think of all the human misery it causes and feel a little sad.

Unimpressed by one-sided, undocumented claims. C-sections in the US do not require subsequent sterilizations by insurance or anyone else. IF (and it's a pretty big if) this woman's potential insurer was making such a requirement, then it was not because a c-section. Seeing it is a vid from a well-established liberal apologist organization does not help. Smacks of PrObamaGanda.

This is absolutely true. Hospitals in this country hate natural births. At the very least they try to push for expensive anesthetics for a natural birth.

The hospital closest to me refuses to even perform a natural birth. I know half a dozen women who went to have a baby there and before the child was even due they brought them in to chemically induce labor. One friend of mine spent 7 days in labor. SEVEN DAYS until finally she had had enough and let them perform a c-section. The doctor even seemed extremely happy when she finally gave in, and it was still before the actual due date.

It's frankly pathetic and yet another symptom of how drastically we need to change health care in this country and make it a not-for-profit system once again.

She can't afford a c-section but can afford raising a 3rd child? That's socialist-talk. And I don't like it.
