What's the point of the salt?

Salt lowers the freezing point of the water/ice mixture, so the ice loses heat to the water without melting, and without freezing the water. This means the temperature of the water must drop. With enough salt, you can apparently get the saltwater/ice down to about zero Fahrenheit.

It's colder, I suppose would be the main bullet point of this presentation.
