A fantastic short film by Charles and Ray Eames for IBM: 'dealing with the relative size of things in the universe, and the effect of adding another zero'. This was originally posted by Mlx, but was discarded after pulled from YouTube (I emailed the Sift to check if I could post this, but got no reply). A bit more information: "Powers of Ten explores the relative size of things from the microscopic to the cosmic. The 1977 film travels from an aerial view of a man in a Chicago park to the outer limits of the universe directly above him and back down into the microscopic world contained in the man's hand. Powers of Ten illustrates the universe as an arena of both continuity and change, of everyday picnics and cosmic mystery. The film also demonstrates the Eameses' ability to make science both fascinating and accessible."

In any case, I don't think it's bad Siftiquette to repost a dead->discarded post. If the original submitter's video has died and the 48 hour window has elapsed, I say feel free to repost it, however, if still within the 48 hour dead window, it'd be friendly (though not required) to profile comment the original submitter the new link.

I love this video. Done in 1977? Anyone know how it was accomplished? Just hand drawings maybe?

I didn't notice that it had been marked dead until I checked my Favourites last night (it was going to be one of my first posts, until I found yours!) If I knew it was dead & my link was from Google rather than YouTube, I would have let you know where a replacement was (damn shame SiftBot comments don't notify via favourites).
