Cats choose your company, they could fend for themselves very well. Other pets, like dogs for example, are at your mercy, because they'd starve to death within a week shouldn't you provide them with everything.

Actually, dogs form up into packs and go after other animals. Like sheep, cats, Bichon Frises, goats, small children and overly dramatic prarie dogs.
