To some extent, you have a point. But a big fat moron can work out and diet to get in shape and can go read a book (besides the bible) to learn a few things. If you're Arabic, you can't turn Japanese through hard work and effort.

Also note that being fat is inferior to being in shape and it's something you ought to want to change, whereas being black, brown, yellow or red is not inferior to being white.

This presents us with a nice contrast on the Sift:

Tracy Curly endorses McCain because he is "The one who has the most faith in the Lord. I can't imagine a president of the United States being named president Obama... I really have a problem with that... a mother that was atheist, that really gets to me... a father that was a Muslim, that should get to everyone."

Colin Powell endorses Obama because "He displayed a steadiness, an intellectual curiosity, a depth of knowledge... He’s crossing lines-- ethnic lines, racial lines, generational lines... he is reaching out all across America, because of who he is and his rhetorical abilities, as well as his substance, he has both style and substance, he has met the standard of being a successful president... I think he is a transformational figure, he is a new generation, coming onto the world stage, the American stage,

And for that reason, I will be voting for Barack Obama."

Close call... I'd say tie goes to the General.

I'm sorry, but being fat is NOT the same as skin color. Fat is BAD. Fat makes you slow, it shortens your life, and it means there is a problem. Sure there are some who don't have control over it due to some glandular problem, but in America, that latter explanation is over-used pop-psychology bs. Most over-weight people here are so by their eating habits, the fact they aren't active in any way whatsoever, and potentially other unrelated problems which they are trying to solve by super-sizing their meals.

To my point, this narrow-minded, shallow, racist pig is more than likely fat because she enjoys a nice pint of ice-cream after each meal.

But, we all know that she is one bigoted bitch who will never be shown the right way because she will never let herself admit she has been wrong all this time.

If Obama loses, it'll be because of people exactly like this. There's millions of them. And she's saying what they're all thinking. Obama isn't "one of us," because he's too "uppity" and "elitist" and doesn't share the worldview of the regular joe six-pack who thinks America is the God-blessed greatest country on earth that can do no wrong. *sigh*

Calm down, everyone.

Yes, I find this personally disgusting. But democracy means that every vote counts. And if the majority of America turns out to be like this woman, well, that's the kind of leadership that America will choose for itself.

The cornerstone of Democracy is that no person's opinion means more than another's. Just because we have (presumably) higher IQs doesn't mean our votes should be weighted more. It's tempting to say, "There ought to be a test you have to pass to register to vote." But who makes the test? If that woman made it, and it was chock full o' Bible trivia, I'd fail it.

Sometimes we don't get the leadership we need, sometimes we get the leadership we deserve.

Yes, she's stupid, ignorant, racist, a fundamentalist, and pretty damn ugly (inside and out), but there's a deeper question here: why does this woman, and presumably a large group of Americans, think like this? Is it solely because of her Christian upbrining? If so, why are there also many clear-headed, not-as-ignorant, rational Christians? Is it because of her social-economic status? A combinations of the two? Her upbringing?

What specifically occurred to make her so painfully ignorant? These are the more important questions that need to be solved to make people like this into informed voters and successful participants in our society. We may not know all the answers because we don't have all the information, but I feel it's worth at least some conjecture and rational thought.

Either way, I'm willing to bet that she has no more than a high school education - if that. It may sound elitist, but I believe that education is the cornerstone of creating a society of logical, thinking, clear-headed individuals able to make critical decisions.

The problem is the elections of this country affect many other countries. Do other countries in the world deserve to be affected by 'what America deserves'?

why do other countries need to feel the impact of a bunch of ignorant people, how is that fair?

I understand what you are saying but that last line irks me. American elections are different from the elections of other countries because of the influence America has (even if it has diminished)
Makes no sense to me to say other countries whose people are not as dogmatic, 'deserve' to be affected by what this closeminded ignorant person thinks is a good leader.
And it is precisely for reasons such as this one that we should be upset. We can't let ignorance fuck up everyone.

You've got to be kidding me. I've got no higher than a high school education (because I could not afford to go to College) and I am no where near as ignorant as this woman. I also work in the IT field. Which requires logical, clear-headed thinking in order to perform my job. AND I'm self taught no less.

I hate to burst your bubble pal. But I know a lot of College educated people that are just as ignorant as this woman. There is such a thing as common sense, and independent thought. Both of which this woman is severely lacking. No College in the world can teach you common sense. You either have it or you don't. As for independent thought. It's perfectly clear from this clip that she lets the media and the Church do her thinking for her.

I don't think education has one bit to do with it. More the area you were raised in. I only graduated high school and work with the public in retail. Most of the people I work with have the same level of education. Just about everyone I work with can clearly see McCain is a moron and is voting Obama, as I am myself. The difference is, we live right on the edge of the DC line and have lived with diversity in race all of our lives. It's no issue to us that he's black or muslim or whatever you want to label him as. Education might help, but education by who? If she goes to a fire & brimstone church that's decided to become a front for the Republican party, what's she going to learn?

Should we really ban those sorts of things, or maybe just require them to put Reagan's face on their crucifixes?

"You win my award for the best response to this of the bunch. Instead of ridiculing her, we need to figure out why people get this way, and do our best to prevent this kind of hardheaded ignorance."

We know why people get that way: because thinking is hard and believing is easy.

Because if you pander to their bigotry they'll justify your avarice.

There is no fixing it. Every time you try to expand their minds, they'll accuse you of being in league with the devil.

They will win, and we liberals will lose, the same way that Sparta beat Athens.

Maybe she should actually read the Bible.

The McCain brand of extreme Captialism where its profit at all costs with zero regulation doesn't sound very Christian to me.

Ps. 10:3 - "the greedy man curses and spurns God"
Prov. 11:6 - "the treacherous are caught by their own greed"
Jere. 6:13; 8:10 - "everyone is greedy for gain"
Lk. 12:15 - "be on guard against every form of greed; life is not in possessions"
Eph. 4:9 - "Gentiles...practice every kind of impurity with greediness"
I Thess. 2:5 - "we did not come with pretext for greed"
I Tim. 3:8 - (deacons) "not fond of sordid gain" (cf. Titus 1:7)
II Peter 2:3 - (false prophets) "in their greed they will exploit you with false words"
II Peter 2:14 - (false prophets) "have hearts trained in greed"

Sad that Her racism has distorted her faith.

I think I read about this woman in a book, somewhere. I think it was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Oh, that's right! She's Dolores Umbridge!

"She is a short, squat woman described in the book as resembling a large pale toad. She has a broad, flabby face, little neck, and a wide, slack mouth, with "short, curly, mouse-brown hair."

Doesn't say anything about bulging demon eyes, though.

What is fat?

Some people are overweight, but are healthier than most people. I am not sure there is an accurate clinical definition. Obesity can be quantified, but the health of the obese as it associates to being overweight is not clear metric.

If she wasn't home-schooled, I'll bet a bunch of ignoramuses like her were in charge of her school.

Hypothetically, if everyone who lives in a town is an ignoramus, and therefore no one smart wants to move there, who's going to be teaching in the schools there? Think about it. Teachers need to be shuffled around for the benefit of these towns.

In my experience, the geographical clustering is such that being valedictorian at one high school is equivalent to being completely average at another high school.

Well, my question was 'What made her so ignorant?' I merely suggested that education may play a part in that process. I never insinuated that education was the only cause. I'm sure that there are many voters that have high school educations that can still think critically, but there are probably also many that can't. The underlying question is, "Does having a low education make one more or less likely to be ignorant on voting issues?"

I certainly don't have the answer.

Coming from you QM that's just hilarious, especially since you have said that my entire region should be nuked countless times. I mean the middle east doesn't really dictate shit in the world over the US. But it's cool you do have a valid point. Yes I was angry as well.

Regarding the litany of comments trying to understand why and how this person came to be this way, its simple, there is no real focus on the rights and civic responsibilities of the citizenry in the US. Before you all get railed up and say this was cut and pasted into a clip to make news BS, this point of view has been pushed around and expressed countless times, its like endemic now.

It's a given to be thought controlled into trusting your government, only through a seasoned analytical education looking at maybe just the last 50 years of political history can you readily understand how the US government in most cases works against it's citizenry rather then for it (bay of pigs, star wars, vietnam, watergate, countless shit form both sides of the aisle).

But we don't need analytical thought provoking education anymore, we need fact machines that are just enough to earn a GED and maybe work a computer to succeed. Half of your education now is based more around studying towards test taking rather then actual information or processing that information, since accumulation of facts is not the same as actually thinking through those.

I mean look at something like Discovery Channel, before you could actually watch that a learn something new about Quantum Physics or the Cuban revolution, now it's all a sitcom about busting some dumb fucking myth or Orange County bikers or some rebuild of some fucking car.

But it doesn't matter really though, for most people in the US the only place that exists for them is the US. That's why it's so easy to rally around bombing some poor third world nation from the bronze age back to the stone age, its so far and unimportant and our media paints such a nice picture of it.

This all connects back to belief and comfort, its comforting to let your blind belief in God or the FSM dictate your life, because then you aren't responsible for your actions, because then everything becomes preordained.

Think how comforting it is to know that God made 9/11 happen because America is a sinful nation... rather then a passive aggressor who has push into action countless covert and non covert military operations in Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan because it thought it was doing the right thing without actually thinking of possible blow back stemming from supporting religious nut case such as the Taliban.

What's easier to believe and swallow? God or Facts?

Yes there are many people in the US who are not like this person and are actually aware, and engage in educated discourse from both sides of the coin but really that doesn't count at all for me.

Because this person is demonstrating a total lack of BASIC FACTUAL knowledge about what has happened in this (once great) nation for the last 8 years. I mean seriously. WTF. That's just intolerable, its like decades later we will all do an about face and declare Bush some kind of great war hero, even though he terminated some of the most basic tenants of what make America a kick ass nation (no torture, haebus corpus, no spying on its own citizens and so on)

I think you misunderstood my problem with her statements, the religious community and many other voters connect a leaders religious devotion/conviction with capability to lead a nation. You know instead of actual policy stance and issues, I mean 2004 was an election run on family values at a time of war.

That's simply retarded considering declaring war and bombing other nations is unchristian as you can get. Some choice quotes:

1. I am driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, 'George go and fight these terrorists in Afghanistan'. And I did. And then God would tell me 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq'. And I did. And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East'. And, by God, I'm gonna do it." Sharm el-Sheikh August 2003.

2. I trust God speaks through me. Without that, I couldn't do my job.
Statement made during campaign visit to Amish community, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Jul. 9, 2004

When healthy food becomes as ubiquitous and cheap as $4 for a family of 5, then you can blast people for poor food choices.

Main reasons people eat shit food: Tastes good, is cheaper, and is practically conjured out of thin air in seconds.

Don't start about how you hate hamburgers and they taste crap, you know what I mean. There's lots of crap food out there that has nothing to do with beef. As a matter of fact, the less cheap food has to do with real beef the crappier it is.

All of recorded history would take place in the last ten seconds of December 31st. The two hundred years of our American democracy is actually only a fraction of a second long.
