Brilliant. I love that he is an Adopt a Highway Volunteer.

The paint and rollers cost him _way_ more than $1.

Why would you need to buy new rollers? You're just lightly coating the cardboard. So, how much does a gallon of the cheapest white latex cost where you are at?

Also, most painters toss tons of rollers and sometimes paint at worksites. Anyways, I have trouble believing you could NOT paint 30 or 50 sq ft for $1.

I loved the one that said, "We're all wearing the blue dress now".

Yeah, it may have only cost him a dollar, but judging by the cheesy time lapse it cost him quite a bit of time and effort. Only to have those signs ripped off probably that same day.

LOL that was california - they are probably still there. Nothing like a general feeling of apathy on the freeway during traffic.

Only thing bringing them down is the rain because he didnt clear coat them ;-p

LOL, Timothy: agreed.

As for the $1 cost, well it's definitely less than $1 per 100,000 people; if several million see it, then it still logically works.

People have been daubing messages on bridges for decades, and the anti-war sentiments in this film are trite even if I happen to agree with them.

1. statement: to echo the things people have been saying about the cost, paint doesn't go very far (try it) and it's more like $20 a gallon.

2. question: is the statement at the end actually true, that we're allowed to post 'political speech' anywhere we wish on public property? Or would one be arrested as polluting or soliciting or somesuch?

Ok.. I don't care very much about this, but $20 is wrong.

$8 for a gallon. Now, when you buy a 5 gal bucket, it is cheaper. I just read a bucket that says 350-400 sq ft/gal. I have a pint of mildew paint, I just did about 100 sq. ft with. So, you can say "try it" all you want.

You might be technically charged with littering or vandalism, but I doubt any cops would bother. They might tell you to clean it up if they caught you. It's not like this is permanent.

if you're paying $20 for a gallon of white cheap paint you're probably also employed by the federal government..

I too wonder if the statement at the end is true, that you can post things anywhere on public property. i know some might consider it a form of vandalism. i googled quickly but didn't turn up much, only found a few old cases saying that you could actually do it on private property if that owner had opened it up for public use.... which seems to imply that public property is fair game. but i'd still like to see it.

Well flat out, the state highway patrols control and must approve anything visible from the highways. Some large downtown billboards have come subject to this even though they weren't primarily intended for that, and barely visible from the highway.

So, from that point of view, it is a driving hazard.

At the very least it could be considered littering. You could argue that you would have gone back and collected it. Even chalking sidewalks may be considered vandalism.

As far as private property and billboards.. Many states have outlawed them. But the are still grandfathered. "Billboards are constitutionally protected by the 1st Amendment, under freedom of speech, and by the 5th Amendment, which prevents the government from taking property without just compensation. State law also provides some protections for billboard companies. For example, an illegally erected billboard, if present for more than five years, becomes legal and therefore the City cannot mandate its removal without providing just compensation. "

The law issue is really moot. In an age where the only way to "legally" post something along a freeway is to have a few hundred grand and go through a company such as viacom or clear channel, this is the ideoligical terrorism of the oppressed. Littering is the least of our worries...

Great idea!! He is actually doing something for what he stands for. Except the impeach part which was actually funny.

The only thing is that this country is not a democracy it is a democratic republic. People forget about that.
