This was a pretty darn good takedown, all things considered. Things to keep in mind:
1. The prisoner was hopped up on PCP.
2. The prisoner was probably wet and slippery, and same with the floor. If you notice the bucket, the rag is on the floor. The guy probably doused himself to try to cool himself down (a side effect of the PCP).
3. The team must have been trying to do this as close to perfect as possible, because they obviously had the time to plan their takedown out, and so were very aware of the cameras recording their every step.
As much as it might seem that there are WAY too many officers (well, maybe there are a few too many), a slippery naked man hopped up on PCP on a slippery floor doesn't make for an easy capture, especially when they have to worry about the lawsuits if they screw up.
Honestly I think people in law enforcement get a bad rap in general, am not saying that abuse doesn't take place. But one needs to understand that law enforcement is a dangerous and stressful profession. Protocols are put in place to guarantee the safety of everyone involved. But just like any profession there are abuses.
But generally people's reaction is so black and white, because if one cop did it all other cops are assholes. I just hate it when people adopt a everyone-in-law-enforcement-is-a-dick-type view over the actions of people in Rodney King case or other clips available online.
I mean you don't assume every priest is a child molester just because some are, right?
And yes, bamdrew, that should happen. Just....no shooting bean bag, ok?

would have like to have heard the officers saying 1-2-step and such. all told it looked like a pretty mellow take down for a hopped up naked dood that probably was covered in god knows what kind of fluids. i sure wouldn't have wanted to have to touch him after he was doing the papa smurf dance.
kudos to the guards on this one.
although i have witnessed and experienced guards that are complete dicks that take out all their built up childhood issues on helpless drug users. then again i see that at the late night pizza line too.
as farhad said people need to react to each cop as a person, cause that's all they are. i know when i was arrested the cop was very cool, not a dick at all.
