However I can't help but think she's ignoring the impressive relationship between mind and body and that there may be something psychosomatic going on. You know it is possible to feel like you've been paralyzed but have in fact not been injured at all.

Notice that a half hour passed between the judge asking that people step out and the judge adding to the court record.

I think the guy is faking it, but a deputy/medic isn't remotely qualified to diagnose what happened here. He should be taken to a hospital. He could be having a heart attack or a stroke and still maintain partial awareness. Heart attacks can last for hours.
