Hey nock, a heads-up....I have a real hard-on for the types of folks who will scream "racist", yet act as if a single word uttered, no matter the context is somehow, an all-telling indicator of the character of that person-I am also a lover of semantics and linguistics, and all those subjects entail.....When ever someone gets too, politically correct, the hackles are raised, and I get all excited.....Raised in Houston Tx, by hippy parents, and went to college as a minority student, at an historically Black university.....the word nigger, has become something else since I have been alive, and I am quick to remind folks, of their own bullshit, and am often reminded of my own.....The real dilemma, is how to manage to turn this word into simply a word, and not a connotation.....I still have not figured this one out.....I consider anyone who acts like a stereotypical racist's view of a black man, regardless of melanin content, a nigger, because as it has evolved, in its usage- the word refers to anyone who is all the things that historically, only blacks in the US prior to the civil rights era, were accused of. Low moral character, lazy, without a sense of taste or culture, beyond their own myopic view of the world, uneducated, etc etc etc .....You don't have to be any particular shade of any color, to be a nigger nowadays. The "reception" area is a folding table underneath a tin roof, right behind where this camera man and I were shooting from, so it's unlikely that anybody has ever dropped a grenade that didn't get kicked into the water in time.
I couldn't believe how lax they were about safety. I shot a fully automatic AK-47. The guy just handed it to me, pointed it downrange, then nonchalantly walked downrange to set up my target with this loaded AK pointed right at his back. He didn't even look back to check.
I also shot a clip from a 9mm handgun. He asked me if I needed to be shown how to use it. I said no, and he let me shoot. Then I handed it off to another friend I was with for the last few rounds. She had never shot a gun before, but he didn't ask, just let her go to it.
Don't try to read PC into everything you come across choggie. It's not at all clear to me that he's black. My first guess was Sinhalese, but instead of labeling him, I used the one obvious defining characteristic. Who's getting obsessed with symbols now?
