what it needs is a check to cancel the lift-off script if an obstruction is detected
silly, but a very easy mistake to make
i wouldn't call it a 'fail' as it's not really an AI issue but scripting issue
if you want a fail in this game it's not hard to find one though.. just try put an AI behind the wheel and see it hit the same tree ten times (this was improved upon a lot in 1.02 patch though)
The example here is far form the worst experience the mission makers of ARMA had to endure. If I want a chopper to land on a beach with no obstacles, it doesn't mean it should attempt, give up, get depressed and smash itself against a mountain 2KM away. If I want a car to got from point A to point B, it means I want it to stick to the road, not to try and climb the highest mountain in the game and falls over backwards when the slope gets too steep.
Oh well, at least you can't go through walls just by going prone any more.
The Arma, and operation flash point where both big sand boxes. The scale and sheer density of the playing "universe" (enviornment, and actors) well and truly made up for the occasionally stuck fighter get, or physics glitch that would send ur tank 100m in the air.
But if the above is common, thats pretty silly.
Maybe a few more months of patches and I'll go back to it.
I've put this game back on the shelf for six months, so many bugs encountered in the early stages of the game (AI killing spree in boot camp! lol)
Maybe a few more months of patches and I'll go back to it.
6 months?! It hasn't even been out for more than two, and that's including the early AU release. WTF are you even talking about?
Also, initially I was excited about this game, but after reading early reviews, that excitement turned to "meh."
So you were like "WTF?" and I was like, "OK Let me rephrase" and then I was like "Oh my god! I thought it would be bitchin outa the box but I totally saw so many bugs it was crawling, it was like so grody I almost barfed an stopped playing" and then you were like "it was like out two months ago" and I was all "whats that got to do with anything" and then I was all "like I'll give it another chance an start playing again in six months when they fix all the gross bugs with patches. and shit."
Is this really a case if AI? Wouldn't the jet taking off be a purely scripted event?
You can set waypoints that can get over-ridden.
So ur right.
Imagine if movie studios did that. Release a movie with several missing scenes, and then explain during the credits that they didn't have those ready in time. But if you'd like to come back to the theater in 6 months they'll probably have a handful finished. Assuming they make enough money from ticket sales right now to fund the ongoing shooting.
I can just imagine the reviews: "The missing reels are understandable. It was ambitious of them to even WRITE those scenes, I'm sure they'll get around to it eventually. This is the sort of movie you have to recommend not for what you see on screen, but for what you could theoretically have seen on screen if it had been finished. ***1/2!" -Peter Travers
Not too far off there, entr0py. Films are slowly converting to digital distribution, so there will be patches after release.
*ahem* George Lucas *ahem*
Like all simulation type games, its not for the feint of heart.
... as for the video, youve spawned a jet in an unlikely position (i.e: 90 degrees across a runway) - the ai couldnt find a taxi waypoint as their arnt any on the runway, so tracks back tot he throttle up marker, than went full throttle into a tree... If you spawned it on the taxiway it'd taxi and takeoff just fine.
Its not ideal no, but simulators arn't designed to be used outside their expected usage case. You can pull loops and be an asshat in a 747 in a flight sim, but dont expect the game to accurately model it.
Play the game right, and its jaw dropping. Go online with a bunch of kids acting the cock, and its rubbish..... but so what ?
