Harrier Aircraft Carrier Landing

This is what the Harrier is all about. Surreal.

As neat as this is, it's not very efficient. With bernoulli's principle and lift you have nature helping keep the aircraft flying, but vector thrusting is just brute strength so it's quite the waste in fuel. Still useful to have around in a tight spot, but it doesn't exactly help the mpg.

I went to the airshow in Hillsboro, OR. a few years back, They had a Harrier fly by and hover.
It couldn't verticly land at that airport because it would melt the runway.
The air show is in the hot months and the asphalt is already hot and soft.

Anyway.. The Harrier hovered above us and slowly turned, I coud see its guns, and it was one of the most awesome, scarey , OMFG moments of my life. It was menacing and dangerous.
If I was an unarmed peasant or unprepared enemy, I would have shit a brick.
If I was armed I would have shot that pilot right in his smug face.
