Very interesting, at first glance, seems like a crack-pot, but maybe not. So he's using electricity to separate the hyrdrogen out of the water molecule. Isn't that essentially what a fuel cell is? I've heard the issue with fuel cells is that they require very expensive rare-earth metals like palladium, thus making them uneconomical - but maybe not for the US military.

His site http://hytechapps.com/ claims to have re-engineered the technology to make it more efficient, but of course he doesn't give any details. I did a report on fuel cells for my freshman design class (3yrs ago), so I know a little about them. I remember the biggest issue being fuel storage. I'm not sure if the car can make the fuel on the fly, unless he used the alternator to power the fuel conversion, that would be an big leap in efficiency over previous technology.

I really want to see his schematics, or a simplified version of them at least. I need a better picture of the tech behind this than what is presented.

Unfortunately I'm leaning towards this not being as great as they claim. First off the large increase in efficiency is kind of hard to believe. Second you can't get more energy out than you put in, so that takes out making fuel on the fly for the car. Really the more I think about this the more I don't believe it.

So far, it's not 100% believable. The water/gas hybrid thing makes me think that he's using the gas to generate power for separating his water gasses or something. They neatly avoid talking about how much gasoline is used in his car, but they point out that it's only 4oz of H20. Then again, if it is real..if it's more effecient overall to separate the gases and burn them again using fuel cells and gasoline generators....who knows?

I'd like to see programs about this kind of thing on DISCOVERY or something.

This is really strange because as far as I can see he's doing something which has been done for years. HHO is either the same as H2O or hes seperated some of the hydrogen out and is simply burning the hysdrogen. This is borne out of the only by-product: water. This looks like either he's running a scam or is simply not versed in chemistry very well. He is even breaking it down using electricity which is one of the main methods used to break water down into hydrogen.

Without further details on the gas which he is producing I can't really comment on what is happening here but I call BS. Especially on his hybrid car. It can't only use 4oz of water if it's burning at a similar rate to that shown in the first demonstration. That is unless, hes using some kind of nuclear process, because there is no way you could extract so much energy from 4oz of water in a chemical process.

This is a total farce. If you want the truth, check out James Randi's web site at http://www.Randi.org. Randi covered this topic in last week's (June 9th, 2006) commentary, showing that this Klein guy is selling snake oil!

The funniest part is that the "instructional video" he offers shows water as being made up of ONE hydrogen molecule and TWO oxygen molecules. If he can't figure out what H2O stands for, how could he invent a revolutionary new technology?

Besides, as someone above says, this "water torch" has been around for generations!

This story is crap. Dag, no this is not what a fuel cell does, it's closer to the opposite. Generating hydrogen is energy-intensive, so basically to create hydrogen you zap it with tonnes of electricity, or you process hydrocarbons (oil), and out comes hydrogen. You then "burn" the hydrogen (allow it to combine with oxygen) and some energy is released, although it's less than the energy you had to put into it in the first place. Fuel cells are batteries -- you add energy and later they release a portion of that energy, they are not energy *sources*. Hence the reason Bush loves them, they require a net increase in energy production and some sort of central utility to create the battery for you. What this claims to do is "burn" water, which doesn't work. You have to put more energy into the water to split it into oxygen and hydrogen than is released once you burn the hydrogen. And *of course* H20 and HHO are the same thing, good gravy. Snake oil.

And for the record, the reason his vehicle is a hybrid is because hybrids burn gasoline to generate electricity. Usually this is used to create a more efficient vehicle that uses the electricity to power an electric engine, in this case it wastes most of that energy by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen and burning it. The vehicle could not run on purely water, and that's why there's no mention of mileage: because it's unlikely it could outperform a gasoline-only engine. That's also why they say it's passed all "safety" tests but they say nothing about fuel efficiency tests. Water's not a fuel, that's why it has zero calories. (That's not a joke.)

Hello, just wanted to comment on fuel cells, as some of the information posted about them isn't quite right. Fuel cells are not batteries, they are load-following electricity generators. As and when a fuel, in the case of hydrogen fuel cells, hydrogen, is fed into what is usually a stack of cells, electricity and H20 are created via a simple electro-chemical process (like the reverse of electrolysis). Hydrogen is not energy intensive to isolate except when it is reformed from hydro-carbons via certain methods (this is perhaps why certain people seem to be taking a shine to fuel cells right). In fact, Hydrogen can be obtained easily from solar panels & wind power with an electrolyser, but best of all, from waste. In a completely zero emission system, anaerobic digesters, pyrolysis and hydrogen fuel cells (pretty much in that order) can work in harmony to turn almost any waste into electricity and pure water in a closed loop in terms of the energy required to run each element. It's true that some fuel cells do use exotic materials, most all of them use platinum for example, and of course these being either mined or toxic materials are not friendly to people or the planet and should be avoided in clean energy solutions. Cenergie have developed a solution to this in a fuel cell system which uses only commodity materials and is 100% recyclable. If you'd like to find out more about fuel cells and clean waste to energy systems, have a poke around www.cenergie.com, it's cute and full of info. I can't comment on this man's technology, although given the state of our planet, we might champion technology which makes water, instead of burning it up. Power for peace, alkagirl*
