This is a time-lapse of a gravity wave taken by the Tama, Iowa KCCI-TV webcam on 6 May 2007. Gravity waves form when buoyancy pushes air up, and gravity pulls it back down. Very cool stuff!

my understanding is that when very high clouds are all wavy and banded their pattern is a remnants of this sort of effect.

oh, and you guy's are just jealous. ant totally owns. we are but ants to him, ironically.

That's not a gravity wave, it's a fluid wave, just like a wave in water except it's in air. A gravity wave is a wave in spacetime.
