Godspeed You Black Emperor! vs Donald Duck´s banned cartoon

The music is Godspeed You Black Emperor! playing one of their best songs, Kicking horse on broken hill.

The video is an old "banned" cartoon from disney, about WW2, called The Spirit of 43, a very appropriate choice for such post-apocalyptic music. It is a great combination, but also, an excuse to post one of their songs.

from wikipedia:
"Godspeed You! Black Emperor (formerly punctuated Godspeed You Black Emperor!; also referred to as GY!BE) is an avant-garde Canadian post-rock band based in Montreal, Quebec. Formed in 1994, the ensemble has been influential in its genre, with widespread critical acclaim.

Working on a near orchestral scale, the nine-piece group had been known to use wide dynamic ranges; unusual use of instrumentation and sounds; elongated songs, composed almost classically, with multiple movements therein; and use of art and visuals in both their album packaging and live performances."

Absolutely brilliant compilation! I really enjoy seeing many of those (now banned) animations from the WW2 era. Typically loaded with pro-US propoganda. It IS a part of history and should not be blacklisted. Though of course it probably isn't fit for broadcast on Saturday mornings

I wonder if there is a source online where one could see all of those old animations. Are they in public domain?

Now.. For modern times, it looks like something Faux News might repeat in the background in today's context boasting a pro-war attitude. They'd replace the music of course.. with something more flashy. Maybe TV Wrestling music to better equate with their core viewership.

...the hell was the point of that.

Almost downvoted, but I just cannot downvote Donald Duck.

He's been my idol ever since I was 10.

That was awesome! Though, Godspeed aren't really avant-garde - they're poli-post-rock, not at all avant-garde. definitely isn't one of their best songs but all their songs are good. Remember the Godspeed song towards the beginning of "28 Days Later" ?

That's the thing about about evil I guess, how evil fighting it makes you. When I look at this video re-contextualized with GY!BE and think about the military/industrial complex, it makes me realize how long the effects last.
