Glen Hoddle had his critics as a manager, but no one could doubt his ability as a player. Best player of his generation? Possibly..(Waddle,Barnes??)

anyway,he was one of Dennis Bergkamp's favourite players as a young Dutch boy growing up.

Great post

It's a shame great players don't make great managers. It's even worse that the boards at football clubs still think they do.

Brilliant footballer and also a complete mental case. But aren't all the best ones?

Most managers seem, shall we say, eccentric.

Hoddle's problem was Eileen Drewery (spelling?) and getting her to "heal" members of the 1998 England squad.

A very strange man.

I think he lost most respect when he claimed that all disabled people were being punished for bad behaviour in their previous lives. Completely loopy.
Just stick to kicking the ball towards the goal.

I think it was a combination of that and other things. Remember he made that remark on radio well before it became an issue and no one reported it negatively. When it was later repeated the papers picked it up and it all got out of control.

Either way it's a stupid thing to say. I'm glad it was picked up at all, he obviously needed a kick up the arse.

And then you've got the music. Diamond Lights was a punishment for all of us.

Yeah, not just stupid but untenable, unprovable, offensive and utterly wrong.

What's truly galling is that after his departure Channel 4 (I think) allowed him to make an hour long show, defending his religious beliefs and practices at the time he was England manager. It was shockingly unapologetic and an exercise in hubris and narcissism.
