I just read on another web page that she tries to cheat at marker 00:55 or so. Someone says STOP to let them know that the little contest is over, and she cheats by doing a little more stomping at the end. That probably got her a little off balance, and contributed to the fall. It's called Karma, kids.

Turns out her name is Melissa Sander, and she lived (no word on whether there were any injuries). She worked for WAGA-TV in Atlanta at the time, but later moved to Albany where she's the "weekend meteorolgist." Not sure which job was crappier. I'm guessing the move was to escape the ridicule and humiliation of moaning and whining for several moments on a live tv spot.

I think you guys are the most horrible people I have ever met in my life. I personally know Melissa and she is one of the nicest and caring people I have ever met. She never talks about it because it hurt her so much inside. You know, that day she was severely hurt. She broke many ribs. And through all the pain, she got up and continued her broadcast. Afterwards, she was immediately taken to the hospital.

I can’t believe how selfish people can be, thinking that other peoples’ pain is funny. This not only hurt her, but it hurt me too. It hurts me to know there are actually people out there like you guys.

she was being a wise ass (the "cheating" silliness) and got caught by fate. We are just lucky we got to watch. I wish each of the times I was being a wise ass and got caught by fate was filmed so at least people could get a good laugh out of me like I got out of this.

I don't think she exactly deserved to take a dive because of cheating a little (was she even eligible for that prize they were talking about?).

If she broke ribs as suggested above, how'd it happen? It was a three-foot drop onto a flat lawn AFAICT; broke the fall with her hands too.

Going off the topic of an injured reporter for a moment, I must say that this tradition is one of the most disgusting food preparation practices in existence.
