Evolution of a Virtual creature: 1070 generations
tags:For this project, Lee Graham, of Carleton College, in Ottawa, generated a random creature made of solids that look like a bunch of boxes, with locomotion algorithmically defined in an intuitive way. With the fitness measurement being "distance travelled" he shows the best creature after 1, after 3, after 10, and ultimately after 1070 generations (and several more intermediate values).
It's quite interesting to watch the creature get more and more sleek and less baroque. The music is Pop Science by Devin Anderson.
