Sergei Bondarchuk's 1968 film War and Peace took seven years to shoot, at a cost of over $100 million (with inflation taken into account it would cost over $700 million today, making it the most expensive film ever made). This scene depicting the Battle of Borodino, the defining battle of Napoleon's invasion of Russia was filmed without CGI and with 120,000 extras!
