But as some one commented, i cant remember where, these clouds have always been there. Its the heightened sense of impending doom created by fake science, that has every one on edge!
I always heard about hole punch clouds when I was a meteorologist, but I never actually saw one. That strikes the weather side of me with a bit of awe.

It wouldn't be unusual for people to think that. Heck, a couple days back a neighbor was telling me about how it can't be a coincidence that the would "is supposed to end in 2012", the same year that Obama will be running for re-election.
For observable phenomena, I think it goes something like this:
1. Unusual occurrence. 2. No immediate explanation. 3. ??? 4. God did it.

Is this maybe something to do with Moscow being snow-free this winter? I heard something a while back about the city authorities planning to mess with the clouds to prevent snow falling in the city.
