BJ Novak of The Office recently appeared on Conan O'Brien to discuss his discovery that despite the BLATANT wording on the Cadbury website that says,

Why has the size of the egg changed?
It hasn't - you've just grown up!

BJ then provides proof it's a lie!

Great Easter sift. I just tried to find this on their Website, but it's an un-navigable pile of chocolate Flash goo.

This makes me laugh. Somewhere there's a room full of executives tearing their hair out over this. Gee guys, was it worth the money you saved?

Is that the sweet, sweet smell of a class action? Sign me up - I've been permanently damaged by my eggs shrinking.

As I understand it, the official explanation is that they haven't technically reduced the size - they've just started selling the European size eggs, which are smaller, in the U.S for the same price. Well that's OK then.

Just curious, does anyone know if the net weight has changed?

Yes. I think it's 1.4oz to 1.2oz, or 2.4 to 2.2, or 14 to 12. I'm a product of the metric changeover; I work in grams and pounds and don't understand ounces, but it's something like that.

Doo doo doo it's the anal retentive chef! This is a common occurence, size reduction. I bet this guy was homeskooled. Boring x 10.

Captain Planet...your right...the practice of reducing the size or quality of a product to keep the price down is a common practice. The difference here though is the lie and how they try to be "cute" in covering the lie. "Why has the size of the egg changed? It hasn't - you've just grown up!"

Oh grimm, grimm, be not so thus as yer silly name brothers, this tactic is acceptable as long as one of these disgusting confectionery abortions never enters another human mouth......

Is this not, at any size, one of the more viler sweetmeat sensations at Easter time??? Any Time??

(man, choggs got a career on Madison Ave waiting for him!!)

Well, this week Cadbury has changed their FAQ from the cute "You've just grown up!" to the convaluted "As the world's largest confectionery company, Cadbury Schweppes is committed to developing great-tasting products that you, the consumer loves. Since people's preferences vary from market to market, so do our products. This is reflected in the broad variety of sizes and flavours of products that we offer our consumers worldwide."

I almost like the cute answer better than this "three card montey" answer.

According to Cadbury UK's FAQs (www.cadburyschweppes.com):

Why has the size of the egg changed?

As the world's largest confectionery company, Cadbury Schweppes is committed to developing great-tasting products that consumers love. Since people's preferences vary from market to market, so do our products. This is reflected in the broad variety of sizes and flavors of products that we offer our consumers worldwide.

If you're eating a Cadbury Crème Egg in the UK or Canada - nothing has changed, they're the same size as ever. However, in the United States, our business partner, Hershey, elected to reduce the size of the crème egg.

Cadbury Eggs remain a consumer favorite and continue to be an excellent value. We apologize for any confusion or misleading information.
