The Master System had three things wrong with it:
1. No pause on the controller.
2. Sega had a stingy game licencing policy
3. And the games were to challenging

It did have some awesome games though, and its processor was more powerful than the one on the NES.

I had a Master System! All I remember is that it had a game built right into it, which seemed like the coolest thing ever at the time. Of course, the system collected dust while I practically played my NES into oblivion, but still... good times.

NES and SNES always topped Sega for me. So much so, that I was playing "rivercity ransom" and "zelda: a link to the past" for hours last night...yea, last night.

The sega master system was indeed awesome, but they totally stole the slogan "the challenge will always be there" from my 5th grade remedial math unit on fractions.

Also, the one kid I knew that had a master system was the coolest in the class. He was from the future and knew all about pegged jeans and handjobs.
