I've played D&D a few times but never particularly cared for it, but maybe you fanboyz might like these critiques and appraisals of low-level magic spells. Insightful and humorous.

Not saying that's bad! Just saying.....
Magic Missile is un-saveable damage that always hits and increases in damage as your caster level increases, therefore the rating of B- is somewhat low considering how consistently good it is.
Charm Person has the same saving throw problem as Sleep, in addition to only working on humanoid creatures. Animals/Beasts/Monsters - often far more dangerous than any humanoid - are completely unaffected.
Sleep is actually an incredibly horrible first level spell due to its ridiculously low saving throw to negate.
